Googlebook’s Android phone integrations—called Better Together—did not support Samsung phones when Googlebook launched, according to a report published October 6, 2026. Google said support would roll out over the coming weeks to Samsung devices that support Android 17. That makes this a launch-time gap, not a permanent Samsung exclusion, but eligibility depends on both Android version and rollout status.
Which Googlebook feature is affected?
The issue is with Better Together, Googlebook’s set of connections between a laptop and an Android phone. Its reported features include instant hotspot, notification sync, access to phone files, continuing tasks started on the phone, and streaming phone apps on the laptop. Google’s product announcement describes Googlebook as combining Android technology and apps with ChromeOS’s browser strengths, Gemini features, and premium hardware. Google’s Googlebook announcement introduced the platform and named Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo as initial hardware partners.
At launch, 9to5Google reported that Samsung phones were not yet supported for Better Together. The report reproduced Google’s statement: “Support for Better Together features will be rolling out across all Android 17-supported Samsung devices over the coming weeks. Sorry for the inconvenience!” Google’s statement was reported by 9to5Google; the report did not identify a specific Google spokesperson.
What Samsung phones are eligible?
The reported rollout condition is Android 17 support—not simply owning a Samsung phone. 9to5Google also reported that Google’s support information set Android 17 as the minimum for the integration suite. A Samsung phone running Android 16 or earlier therefore does not meet the stated requirement, even once the Samsung rollout progresses.

Google has not provided, in the cited report, a device-by-device schedule or a confirmed date when the rollout will be complete. The promise covers Android 17-supported Samsung devices, but it does not establish that every Samsung model can run Android 17 or that every eligible phone has already received support.
How to check whether your Samsung phone will work
- Check the phone’s Android version. Open your phone’s Settings and look for the Android version in the software or device information section. Menu names can vary by Samsung model and software version.
- Confirm whether your exact model supports Android 17. The stated requirement is Android 17; a phone that cannot run it does not qualify under the reported support terms.
- Check current Better Together availability for your phone and Googlebook. Android 17 eligibility does not by itself confirm that the rollout has reached your device. No model-specific release schedule or reliable workaround is established in the cited coverage.
- Decide based on the feature you need. If you rely on phone notifications, files, hotspot, task continuation, or app streaming, confirm those integrations work before buying a Googlebook specifically for use with your Samsung phone.
Is Magic Pointer broken on Samsung phones too?
No. Magic Pointer is a separate Googlebook feature, not the Samsung phone integration. It brings Gemini help to material selected on the laptop screen—for example, using a date in an email to set up a meeting or asking Gemini to work with selected images. Google’s May 12, 2026 announcement introduced Magic Pointer, and its September 21, 2026 product announcement described additional examples and the cursor-wiggle interaction.

Google Help says Magic Pointer can be opened from the status bar, with a configured cursor wiggle, or by pressing the Action/Google key and G. After selecting screen content, you can enter a prompt or choose a suggested one. Google documents availability on Googlebook in countries where Gemini is available, in English, German, French, and French Canadian. Those conditions concern Magic Pointer, not Better Together’s Android-version requirement.

If Better Together with a Samsung phone is essential to your decision, treat support as unconfirmed until it works with your specific phone. Check whether the model can run Android 17, then verify that the rollout has reached it; the reported announcement does not give a completion date or device-by-device timetable. If you do not need those phone integrations, the launch-time Samsung gap does not by itself establish that other Googlebook features are unavailable.

Google’s September 21, 2026 announcement listed a starting price of $899 and said devices reached U.S. shelves October 4, followed by Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5. It also announced 12 months of Google AI Pro, including 5TB of storage, and up to 10 years of feature drops and updates.
