Luminar brings its RAW and creative editing tools to Googlebook, with a desktop-style experience reportedly rebuilt for Google’s new laptop platform. Its Google Play listing describes the editor’s features and Android/ChromeOS compatibility; 9to5Google reports that the Googlebook OS version adds keyboard shortcuts, resizable windows, drag-and-drop, and the ability to continue an edit from a phone. Those are separate claims: the Play listing does not independently verify Googlebook-specific behavior or compatibility with any particular laptop.
What Luminar adds to Googlebook
Luminar is a photo-editing app from Skylum. Its Google Play listing describes tools for both foundational adjustments and more specialized edits:
- RAW editing for working with RAW photos.
- Curves and color controls for adjusting tone and color.
- Detail enhancement for refining image detail.
- Crop and geometry tools for framing and correcting perspective or alignment.
- Landscape adjustments for landscape photography.
- Erase and object removal for removing unwanted elements.
- Filters and effects for applying creative looks.
These are features the app listing describes; their presence should not be read as an independent test of performance on Googlebook hardware.
What the Googlebook rebuild reportedly changes
In an October 5, 2026 report, 9to5Google said Luminar’s rebuilt app for Googlebook OS meets the platform’s “Tier 1” quality standards and adds features aimed at laptop use:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Keyboard shortcuts for operating the editor with a keyboard.
- Resizable windows so the app can fit different workspace layouts.
- Drag-and-drop for moving content into or within the app.
- Continue On, which the report says lets someone start an edit on a phone and continue it on Googlebook.
These Googlebook-specific details are reported by 9to5Google; they are not technical details in a primary Skylum announcement cited here. The report does not establish how the features perform across different Googlebook models.
What the app listing says about device support
The Google Play listing for Luminar describes the app as designed for Android and ChromeOS. It specifies Android 11 and newer, and ChromeOS devices with Android Runtime support. This is the listing’s compatibility language, not a model-by-model confirmation or independent device test.

Google describes Googlebook as a new laptop category built with Android technology and ChromeOS desktop foundations, designed to work with Android phones. It opened preorders on September 21, 2026, with a starting price of $899 and 12 months of Google AI Pro included, according to Google’s announcement. Those are announced Googlebook terms, not a Luminar bundle: the available app listing does not establish a Googlebook-specific Luminar entitlement or promotion.
Can an existing Chromebook run the Googlebook version?
Do not assume that every Chromebook can transition to Googlebook OS or run the rebuilt app. Google’s Chrome Enterprise and Education Help page, last updated September 23, 2026, says many newer Chromebook devices may be eligible to transition and describes commercial rollout as a multi-year roadmap. It does not identify every eligible model.

Check Google’s current information for the exact device before relying on an OS transition. Separately, the Play listing’s ChromeOS support requires Android Runtime; that general compatibility statement does not confirm support for a specific Chromebook or guarantee access to the Googlebook-specific desktop features.

What to check before choosing Luminar for a laptop workflow
- Confirm the device and OS. Verify the exact Googlebook or Chromebook model and its Android Runtime or Googlebook OS status rather than relying only on broad platform language.
- Separate listed tools from desktop behavior. The Play listing names editing features, while the keyboard, window, drag-and-drop, and Continue On details come from 9to5Google’s report.
- Decide whether phone-to-laptop continuity matters. Continue On is reported as a feature of the rebuilt Googlebook app; the cited sources do not document model-by-model availability.
- Review the current subscription terms. The Play listing’s options and trial terms may change and are not evidence of a Googlebook purchase offer.
