To forward calls placed to your Google Voice number, add and verify a phone as a linked number, then turn it on under call-forwarding settings. For selected contacts, create a custom rule on a computer. If you want calls to your mobile carrier number to reach Google Voice voicemail instead, configure conditional forwarding with your carrier; that is a different route.
Choose the forwarding option that matches your call

These options are not interchangeable: standard forwarding sends calls placed to your Google Voice number to linked phones; carrier conditional forwarding sends calls placed to your carrier number to Google Voice voicemail. Google’s setup instructions describe linked-number forwarding, while its carrier-forwarding instructions cover the reverse direction.
Forward all Google Voice calls to a linked phone
Link and verify the destination
- Open Google Voice in a browser or app and open Settings.
- If the destination is not already linked, add its number. On a computer, go to Settings > Account > Linked numbers. In the mobile app, Google documents the path as Settings > Account > Devices and numbers.
- Complete verification. Google says mobile numbers are verified by SMS and landlines by a verification call. You can link up to six numbers; a number already linked to a Google Voice number cannot be linked again.
Turn on call forwarding
- Open Settings > Calls. In the mobile app, open the incoming-call settings under Calls; labels can vary by platform and account.
- Under Call forwarding, turn on each linked number that should ring. On a computer, Google distinguishes linked numbers under Call forwarding from selected My devices.
- Call your Google Voice number and confirm that the intended phone rings.
Turning off a forwarding switch stops that linked phone from ringing but does not unlink the number. Remove a number separately from the account settings if you no longer want it linked. Google says linked-number forwarding is unavailable to SIP Link users; if you use a managed business deployment, ask your administrator about the configuration.

Custom rules let you send calls from a chosen contact or contact group to linked phones, voicemail, or call screening. Google requires a computer to create, edit, or delete rules; the app may display existing rules.

- On a computer, open Google Voice.
- Go to Settings > Calls > Custom call forwarding and select Create a rule.
- Choose the contact or contact group, then select Forward calls and the linked number or numbers. Alternatively, choose voicemail or screening as available in the rule options.
- Save the rule. If the contact’s phone number changes, update the rule.
If more than one rule matches a contact, only the first matching rule in the displayed order applies. Reorder rules when necessary so the intended one comes first. See Google’s custom call-forwarding help for the rule workflow.
Send carrier-number calls to Google Voice voicemail
Use this option when callers dial your mobile carrier number and you want busy or unanswered calls to reach Google Voice voicemail. Set up conditional call forwarding on the carrier phone line and use your Google Voice number as the destination.

- Forwarding codes and availability depend on the carrier and plan. Some reseller or subsidiary plans may not support the feature, and codes shown for one provider should not be assumed to work for another. Ask your carrier for its current conditional-forwarding instructions.
- If you have multiple linked numbers, Google says to configure conditional forwarding on each one.
- To restore your carrier’s voicemail handling, disable conditional forwarding using your carrier’s instructions.

Use Do Not Disturb when you want voicemail, not another phone
Google Voice’s Do Not Disturb setting sends incoming calls to voicemail rather than ringing a linked phone. Google also documents ways to enable it outside working hours or while you are out of office based on Google Calendar. This is an availability setting, not call forwarding to a different destination. What Google Voice forwarding cannot do
Google says forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system is unsupported. If you need an auto attendant, Google points to Google Workspace; the cited help page does not establish eligibility, setup steps, or pricing. See Google’s linked-number and forwarding documentation.
