If your Google TV Streamer feels slow, start with a restart, then force-stop apps that are stuck or recently used. Google also recommends checking app and system updates and enabling Quick Start if the option is available. These are troubleshooting steps, not a guaranteed cure; Google does not quantify how much faster they make the device.
First, identify what is lagging
Google describes slow Google TV devices as freezing, starting slowly, responding slowly to searches, or taking a long time to open apps. Those point to interface or app responsiveness. A video that stutters or a stream that buffers is a different symptom and may need a different fix.
If menus and app launches are slow, use the steps below in order. They begin with reversible actions and do not require a reset or replacement.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Restart the Google TV Streamer
- Open Settings > System > Restart.
- Wait for the device to restart, then try the menu or app that was slow.
This is Google’s first general troubleshooting step for a slow or laggy Google TV device. Google’s troubleshooting guide lists the restart path.

Force-stop an app that is stuck
If the slowdown began in a particular app, close it from Settings rather than repeatedly reopening it:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Recently opened apps.
- Select the app that is unresponsive or contributing to the slowdown.
- Choose Force stop > OK.
- Repeat for other relevant recently opened apps, then reopen the app you want to use.
Force-stopping is an app-specific step; it does not establish that the app was the cause of every slow menu or startup problem.

Check app and system updates
Update apps through Google Play
Check Google Play for available app updates and install them. Google notes that the device may run more slowly while app updates are being installed, so temporary sluggishness during that process is not by itself proof that an update made the problem permanent.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCheck for a system update
- Open Settings > System > About > System update.
- If an update is offered, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
Google includes both app and system updates among its recommended steps for slow Google TV devices.

Turn on Quick Start if your device offers it
On devices where the setting is present, open Settings > System > Power & Energy > Quick Start and turn it on. Google notes that menu steps can vary by device, so the option may appear differently or not be available in your setup. Quick Start is a setting to try, not a documented speed increase with a measured result.

Menus or app launches are slow
Use the restart, force-stop, update, and Quick Start steps above. High memory use can make an app or system service lag, delay a return to the launcher, or cause interface glitches, according to Android TV developer documentation. That is a general technical explanation, not a diagnosis of a particular Google TV Streamer.

Video stutters or looks jerky
Playback smoothness can involve frame-rate matching. A discussion of the Google TV Streamer 4K describes frame-rate matching as a playback-related setting; it does not establish that it speeds up menus or app launches. See Android Central’s Google TV Streamer 4K coverage.
Video pauses to load
Buffering is a connectivity or stream-delivery symptom, not the same thing as a sluggish settings menu. The cited general lag steps do not establish a network diagnosis; troubleshoot the connection separately rather than treating Quick Start or frame-rate matching as a buffering fix.
If the Streamer is still slow
Persistent lag alone does not show that the device is defective or needs replacing. Consult the Google TV Streamer help hub for device-specific setup, settings, connection, restart/reset, and troubleshooting guidance. If the general steps do not resolve the issue, use Google’s help resources or contact the device manufacturer.
