Google announced Try On in Canada on October 8, 2025. It lets shoppers preview eligible clothing and shoes on an uploaded full-length photo through Google Search, Google Shopping and Google Images. French-language availability in Canada followed on March 31, 2026. The preview is a visual aid—not a fit check or size recommendation.
What Google Try On does
Try On creates an image showing an eligible apparel item on a photo you provide. Google’s Canadian launch announcement covers tops, bottoms, dresses and shoes. From a product result, shoppers can explore available colors and styles, save or share favorites, and use the Shop button to visit the merchant’s website. Google’s Canadian launch announcement describes the feature as drawing on apparel listings in its Shopping Graph across Search, Shopping and Google Images.
Google says the fashion-specific image-generation model accounts for clothing characteristics such as folding, stretching and draping. That is Google’s description of how the feature works, not an independent measurement of how accurately every item will appear.
How to try on an item
- Sign in to Google and find an eligible apparel product in Search, Shopping or Google Images.
- On a non-sponsored result, select the “try it on” icon. Results labelled Sponsored do not offer the button.
- Upload a full-length photo of yourself and view the generated preview of the selected item.
- Explore other available colors or styles, save or share a favorite, or select Shop to continue to the merchant’s site.
Google’s Shopping Help page explains the consumer-facing tool. The exact results and controls depend on whether a product listing is eligible.

Who can use it in Canada
Google’s current Merchant Center Help documentation lists Canada in English and French. It says Try On is available on desktop and mobile for people who are signed in to Google Search and Shopping, are at least 18, and have both Web & App Activity and Search Personalization turned on. The feature appears only on non-sponsored product results.
Google announced the Canadian launch in English on October 8, 2025, then announced French-language availability on March 31, 2026. The French expansion is also described in Google’s French-language Canada announcement.
What the preview can—and cannot—tell you
The generated image gives a general visual impression of how an item might look on you. Google explicitly says it does not show whether the item fits, recommend a size or indicate which sizes the merchant has available. Use the retailer’s sizing chart and return policy to make those decisions; a generated image is not a fitting guarantee.

Why Google introduced the feature
Google framed Try On as a way to make online apparel browsing more personal. Its June 14, 2023 announcement cited a Google/Ipsos survey of 1,614 U.S. adults aged 18 or older who had shopped for clothing online. In that U.S. survey, conducted April 28–30, 2023, 42% said they did not feel represented by images of models, and 59% said they had been dissatisfied with an online clothing item because it looked different on them than expected. These dated U.S. findings are context for the feature, not Canadian results or evidence that Try On improves shopping outcomes. Google’s 2023 announcement provides the survey details.
