In one reported comparison, Google Stitch delivered a coherent four-screen first draft in about 11 minutes; Claude Opus 5.5 connected to SVG Lab’s drawing-enabled MCP took about 40 minutes and produced custom vector silhouettes that more directly matched the brief. Neither result establishes which workflow is generally better: the comparison covered one run per tool, with no edits after generation.

What happened in the same-brief comparison?

Usman Bashir ran the same mobile-app design brief through Google Stitch and through Claude Opus 5.5 connected to SVG Lab’s MCP on September 26, 2026. The brief called for a polished, modern creative-consumer app with multiple screens, clear hierarchy, and a strong visual identity. His comparison, published October 1, 2026, reports one run for each workflow and no post-generation edits. Read the comparison.

The Stitch run used Gemini 3.8 Flash in Balanced mode and asked one clarifying question, which Bashir answered using Stitch’s suggestion. The Claude run’s reasoning effort was not recorded. These are reported observations, not independently verified benchmark results.

Workflow Reported time Reported output Notable result
Google Stitch About 11 minutes Four screens One clarifying question; a consistent editorial direction
Claude Opus 5.5 with SVG Lab MCP About 40 minutes; 119 MCP tool calls Four screens Custom silhouettes and other illustrations drawn as vector shapes; one subtitle overflowed the phone edge

Stitch’s concept, called Atelier, used a shared serif typeface, a terracotta palette, abstract shapes, and photographic imagery. The Claude/SVG Lab concept, called murmur, was an evening sketching app built around point-by-point vector illustrations and silhouettes. Bashir reported that the first Claude screen’s subtitle overflowed the phone edge and left it unedited.

What does “Claude with a design MCP” mean here?

MCP is a way for an AI client to connect to external tools. In this test, SVG Lab’s MCP supplied layout, spacing, typography, illustration, and detail-checking capabilities through its Design Engine. The illustrations were produced in a Claude-plus-tools workflow; the comparison does not show that Claude’s underlying model became more capable on its own.

This is distinct from connecting a model to an existing design system so it can read and reuse a team’s components and tokens. Bashir says that existing-design-system workflow was not tested. SVG Lab describes its MCP product on its Design Engine product page.

Which workflow is a better fit?

Choose Stitch when you need a quick first draft

For this brief, the Stitch run was faster and yielded a coherent editorial visual direction across four screens. That makes it the stronger result in this particular comparison if the priority is getting an initial set of app screens quickly. It is not evidence that Stitch will always be faster or more consistent on other prompts.

Choose a drawing-enabled MCP workflow when custom vector art matters

For this brief, Claude paired with SVG Lab’s drawing tools more directly delivered the requested custom silhouettes and illustrations. The trade-off in this run was substantially more time and tool activity, plus a visible layout defect that would need review and repair.

Do not infer an existing-system result from this test

If the main goal is to apply a team’s established design system, this comparison does not answer which option works better. Reusing existing components and tokens is a different MCP use case, and it was not evaluated here.

What the comparison can—and cannot—tell you

The results are useful as a case study of two workflows under one brief, not as a general ranking. One run per workflow cannot establish average speed, reliability, repeatability across prompts, or overall design quality. The outputs were not edited, so the comparison also does not show how much work either result would need before handoff.

Product descriptions provide context, not comparative evidence. Google’s March 18, 2026 announcement describes Stitch as an AI-native canvas for high-fidelity UI from natural language, with features including an infinite canvas, project-wide design agent, design-rule import and export through DESIGN.md, interactive prototyping, voice interaction, and an MCP server and SDK. Google’s May 19, 2026 update described additional ways to work from prompts, voice, codebases, and design files, steer work on the canvas in real time, share links through AI Studio, export screens to Antigravity, and publish through Netlify; Google said those updates were then globally available. Features and availability can change. See Google’s March announcement and May update.

Anthropic’s April 17, 2026 launch announcement described Claude Design as a product for creating visual work, including interactive prototypes and product wireframes, with editing, sharing, export, and handoff features. At launch, Anthropic described it as a research preview for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers; that dated launch status should not be mistaken for current availability. Anthropic later reported that over one million people used Claude Design in its first week, an Anthropic-reported figure rather than an independent adoption measure. Its later update also describes design-system import, syncing between Claude Design and Claude Code, and connectors to other services. See the launch announcement and later update.
