Google has not published Android phone compatibility requirements or performance benchmarks for its smart-glasses prototypes. Google says the glasses work with a phone to provide hands-free access to apps, and has demonstrated Gemini features, but it has not named supported phone models, Android versions, battery life, latency, or other measured performance figures. That means there is not yet enough public information to say how well a particular Android phone will work with them.
What Google’s glasses are designed to do with a phone
Google’s public descriptions cover prototype glasses rather than a retail product with a published specification sheet. In a May 2025 demonstration, Google described glasses with a camera, microphones and speakers, connected to a phone for app access. The design can also include an optional in-lens display for viewing information privately. Google’s I/O announcement described possible Gemini uses such as messaging, making appointments, turn-by-turn directions, taking photos and live translation. The company also named Gentle Monster and Warby Parker as eyewear partners and said it looked forward to working with Kering Eyewear in the future. The published material supports a description of intended functions, not a verdict on speed or reliability. Google has described contextual Gemini assistance and phone-linked app access, but has not published measurements for responsiveness, battery endurance, thermal behavior, audio quality, display readability in different lighting, network dependence or sustained use. The announced messaging, directions and translation scenarios should not be treated as guarantees of accuracy, speed or battery life.

Google’s original Android XR announcement framed the platform as an operating system for headsets and glasses developed with Samsung. It described headsets as the first device category, with glasses to follow. Headset capabilities therefore should not be assumed to describe the phone-connected glasses. - Minimum Android version or supported phone models
- Minimum phone processor, memory or other hardware
- Connection method or network requirements
- How much processing happens on the phone, glasses or cloud
- Latency, battery life, thermal limits or consumer benchmark results
Until Google publishes those details for a specific product, compatibility with Android in general is not enough to confirm that any particular handset will work.

How Android XR development relates to the glasses
Android XR is broader than the phone-connected AI-glasses prototypes. Google’s December 2025 developer update introduced SDK preview tools for AI glasses, including Jetpack Projected for connecting mobile devices with glasses sensors, speakers and displays, and Compose Glimmer components for display glasses. The preview also described emulator support for touchpad and voice interactions, along with ARCore motion-tracking and geospatial capabilities. Google’s June 2026 developer update discussed optical-display legibility improvements, geospatial APIs for wired glasses, Unreal Engine and Godot support, and pre-release hardware access for selected developers through a Developer Catalyst Program. It also identified XREAL’s Project Aura as an upcoming wired XR glasses device. Wired XR glasses belong to a related but distinct category; those updates do not establish that Project Aura is equivalent to Google’s phone-connected AI-glasses prototypes. Google DeepMind says Project Astra works on Android phones and prototype glasses, with cross-device memory intended to let a person continue a conversation when moving between devices. DeepMind describes Astra as a research prototype being used and refined by a limited number of trusted testers. Its page also discusses work with blind and low-vision participants and an Aira collaboration; that research does not establish a finished assistive product or general availability of glasses. What to check before judging performance
When Google publishes specifications for a consumer model, useful evidence will include the supported phone list and Android versions, the connection and network requirements, and measured results for battery life, responsiveness and reliability. For models with and without an in-lens display, display readability, comfort and battery endurance will also matter. Until such product-specific information or independent testing exists, claims that Google’s glasses are fast, slow, compatible with a particular phone or suitable for all-day use are not established by the public descriptions.
