If a Google review QR code is not working, first check whether it scans, where it leads, and whether the reviewer is signed in. Get a fresh review link or QR code from the Business Profile’s Read Reviews and Get more reviews options in a computer browser, then scan it with a phone before printing it again. If the correct profile opens but Google says reviews are disabled, the issue may be review availability for that profile—not the QR image.
Identify where the process fails
A QR code can fail at different points: the camera may not read it, the code may open an unintended page, Google may ask the reviewer to sign in, or the profile may not currently accept reviews. Check the result of the scan before replacing anything.
- It will not scan: check the code’s print quality and try the current code from Google’s Business Profile.
- It scans but opens the wrong page: compare the destination with the current review link for the intended business.
- It opens Google Account sign-in: signing in is required before a customer can submit a review.
- The right profile opens, but posting is disabled: investigate review availability for the profile; generating another QR image may not help.
Get a current review link and QR code
- On a computer, open the business’s Google Business Profile.
- Select Read Reviews, then Get more reviews.
- Copy the review link or download the QR code Google provides.
- Compare the new link with the destination of the existing code. If the old code came from a third-party generator or an old print file, replace it with a code from the official workflow.
Google says its review QR codes can be generated only in a computer browser, not on a mobile device. See Google’s instructions for creating a review link or QR code.
Scan the code and inspect its destination
Scan the code with a phone camera or QR reader, then confirm that the page belongs to the correct business and leads into its review flow. A successful scan only confirms that the phone can read the image; it does not prove that the destination is current or correct.

If the code opens a general Business Profile page, an unexpected destination, or another listing, verify the business’s current review link in the Business Profile before making a replacement. Do not assume every general-profile landing page has the same cause.
Understand the Google Account sign-in prompt
Customers must be signed in to a Google Account to leave a review. A Google Account can use a non-Gmail email address, so a Gmail inbox is not required. If scanning opens a sign-in or account-creation page, that may be a normal prerequisite rather than a broken QR code. See Google’s review-link guidance and its review policy and customer guidance.

Test the customer flow without relying on the owner’s view
A Business Profile owner may not see the same review prompt as a customer when testing while signed in to the owner’s account. A March 2023 Business Profile Community discussion describes this behavior, but it is not an official guarantee for every listing: Business Profile Community discussion about testing an owner’s review link.
If you cannot tell whether the link works, ask an independent person to inspect the flow. They should submit a review only if they have had a genuine experience with the business.

When reviews are disabled for the profile
If the code scans and the correct profile opens, but Google says posting reviews is disabled, the QR image may not be the problem. A 2024 Business Profile Community discussion illustrates that review availability can affect the review route, but it does not establish why any particular profile is restricted: Business Profile Community discussion about reviews being disabled.
Check the profile directly and contact Google Business Profile support for help with the specific listing. Reprinting the same destination or repeatedly generating a new QR code cannot by itself establish or resolve the reason reviews are unavailable.

Retest before replacing printed materials
Once a newly generated code opens the intended page on a phone, replace old cards or signs. Google recommends displaying a review QR code in-store and also suggests sharing it on receipts, in thank-you emails, or at the end of a chat interaction. An optional countertop or table sign can make a working code easier to find, but it cannot fix a wrong destination, a sign-in requirement, or profile-level review availability.
Ask for honest reviews, not just positive ones
Reviews should reflect a genuine customer experience. Google prohibits offering free or discounted goods or services in exchange for posting a review, changing one, or removing a negative review. Ask for honest feedback without steering customers toward a positive rating. See Google’s Maps user-generated content policy.
