The Google Pixel Watch 5 is a polished, capable smartwatch, but its limited changes over the Pixel Watch 4 make its higher starting price hard to justify unless you want a specific new feature, size, or color. Google lists the watch from $399.99 in the US; whether that is good value depends heavily on the Pixel Watch 4’s current local price.

Google Pixel Watch 5 review: the short version

Chris Martin of Tech Advisor tested the Pixel Watch 5 for weeks and praised its styling, bright domed display, quick charging, and smooth everyday experience. He reported around 48 hours of typical use, but that is his personal experience rather than a controlled battery test or a guarantee for other users. His main reservation is generational value: the design is unchanged from the Pixel Watch 4, and hardware changes are limited.

That makes the Pixel Watch 5 a reasonable choice if you want Google’s newest watch and its particular changes. If you are choosing mainly on price, compare it with the Pixel Watch 4 at the time you buy; the older model may be the better deal if it is substantially cheaper.

What’s new, and what carries over from the Pixel Watch 4?

The Pixel Watch 5 retains the Pixel Watch 4’s design. The review identifies limited hardware upgrades, while Google’s US specifications list Wear OS 7.0, the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated platform, and 64GB of storage. The review also describes increased memory and storage as 3GB and 64GB. In day-to-day use, Martin found performance smooth, but he did not describe a major change in the watch’s overall experience.

Software may matter more than the exterior: Google positions the watch around Google Health and Gemini-based coaching. The review noted that some health features were not available at launch and were beginning to roll out when it was published on September 30, 2026. Feature availability can change, so check Google’s current product information for the functions you intend to use.

Martin also found the Gemini raise-to-wake interaction unreliable in his use and said some features were restricted to Pixel 11 phones. Those are his observations from the review, not universal findings about every user or software configuration.

Design, display, and sizes

Google offers 41mm and 45mm cases. Its US specifications describe an Actua 360 AMOLED LTPO display with up to 3000 nits peak brightness and a 1–60Hz refresh rate, protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Martin praised the bright, domed screen and styling. Which size feels right is personal; try the case size and included band fit if you can, particularly if you are sensitive to the band design the reviewer found uncomfortable.

The watch is rated IP68 and 5 ATM for water resistance. Google also lists Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, Ultra-Wideband, dual-frequency GPS, and LTE/UMTS capability on LTE configurations. Its sensors include heart-rate and ECG-compatible electrical sensors, oxygen saturation sensors, skin-temperature sensing, an accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, altimeter, and barometer. Sensor inclusion does not by itself establish medical accuracy or availability of every health feature in every region.

Battery life and charging: separate Google estimates from review experience

Battery expectations vary by case size and mode. Google’s US specifications list 332mAh for the 41mm and 465mAh for the 45mm, with these manufacturer estimates:

Case size Always-on display Battery Saver Google charging estimate
41mm Up to 30 hours Up to 48 hours About 15 minutes to 50%; about 45 minutes for a full charge
45mm Up to 40 hours Up to 72 hours About 15 minutes to 50%; about 60 minutes for a full charge

These are Google’s estimates, not independent test results; actual battery life varies with settings and use. Martin’s separate report of roughly 48 hours with typical use is an anecdotal observation and should not be treated as a standardized result.

Google says a Quick Charge Dock is included in the box. Martin also liked the charging speed, but the available information does not establish a need to buy a second dock.

Pixel Watch 5 price and configurations

Prices depend on market, case size, and connectivity. Google’s US configurator listed the following Bluetooth/Wi-Fi configurations when checked October 3, 2026; prices are volatile:

US configuration Listed price
41mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi $399.99
45mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi $429.99
45mm Stephen Curry edition $579.99

LTE is available for an additional cost, with the total depending on size. Separately, the Tech Advisor review quoted a $399/£369 starting price and $529/£499 for a 45mm LTE configuration. Those review figures reflect its own market and timing, so do not treat them as a single global price list or assume they match current offers.

Google says the watch works with most Android phones running Android 12.0 or newer. LTE service requires a compatible carrier. Google’s current US pages describe two years of Google Fi Wireless data with an LTE watch purchase; check current offer terms and local availability before buying, since carrier support and service inclusions can change.

Should you buy the Pixel Watch 5 or Pixel Watch 4?

The choice comes down to the price difference and what you will actually use. The review’s case for the Pixel Watch 5 is strongest for someone who specifically wants its new-model changes, a particular color, or the 45mm configuration. Its case is weaker if a discounted Pixel Watch 4 offers the design and experience you want for substantially less.

  • Compare current prices: Check the two watches in your country, including discounts and LTE configuration costs. The Pixel Watch 4 is not always cheaper; promotions and stock change.
  • Match features to your needs: Verify that the Pixel Watch 5 software and health functions you care about are available for your phone, region, and account.
  • Choose the case size: Consider 41mm versus 45mm fit, as well as Google’s different battery estimates for each size.
  • Decide on connectivity: Bluetooth/Wi-Fi avoids the need for a watch data plan; LTE is useful only if the configuration and a compatible carrier suit you.
  • Factor in appearance: If the newer model’s color or band fit matters to you, that can be a legitimate reason to choose it even when the prior generation costs less.

Verdict

The Pixel Watch 5 is appealing and capable, with a bright display, smooth everyday use, quick charging, and substantial storage. But it is not an obvious upgrade over the Pixel Watch 4: the design is unchanged, and the review found the hardware differences modest. Buy it if its specific changes, size, or look matter to you; otherwise, compare live prices and consider the Pixel Watch 4 if it is substantially cheaper.
