Google announced the Pixel 8a on May 7, 2024, with launch offers that differed by country. In the US, Google described a Google Fi offer of $499 returned as 24 monthly bill credits for customers who signed up to a plan. In France, qualifying buyers could claim an extra €150 on top of their trade-in value for purchases made May 7–13, 2024. These were launch-era promotions; their purchase windows have passed, and current offers have not been established.
What Pixel 8a preorder offers did Google announce?
The promotions were not one global preorder deal. Google announced a US Google Fi monthly-credit offer, while Google France advertised a separate trade-in bonus. Each had different eligibility and timing.

Google’s US launch announcement listed a starting price of $499. That is the announced US price in 2024, not a current price. Google France named participating channels including Amazon France (sold and shipped by Amazon), Fnac Darty, Orange, Sosh, Auchan, Carrefour, and Leclerc; those are historical promotion channels, not confirmation of current inventory or offers. How the two deals worked differently
US: Google Fi monthly bill credits
The announced $499 was distributed as 24 monthly credits rather than described as an immediate discount at checkout. The offer required signing up to a Google Fi plan. The launch announcement does not establish the plan’s full cost, the terms for leaving the plan early, or whether a present-day Google Fi promotion exists, so those should not be inferred from the headline figure.

France: a bonus added to trade-in value
The €150 was an additional bonus, not the total trade-in amount. The customer’s final value depended on the qualifying device’s trade-in value as well as the bonus and the campaign’s eligibility and submission rules. The May 7–13, 2024 purchase period is over; the French launch announcement is the source for the campaign’s participating retailers and terms.
Australia: launch price, but no verified bonus amount
Google Australia announced a starting price of A$849 and retail availability from May 14, 2024 through channels including Google Store, JB Hi-Fi, Telstra, Optus, Officeworks, and Harvey Norman. The available evidence does not establish a specific headline preorder or trade-in incentive for Australia, so the US and French offers should not be applied there. Google Australia’s launch announcement gives the historical price and channel information. An Officeworks-hosted May 2024 promotion-terms document is also historical; its available text is not sufficient to state an offer value.

What the Pixel 8a offered at launch
The Pixel 8a is a 2024 Google phone with a 6.1-inch OLED display offering refresh rates up to 120 Hz, a Tensor G3 processor, 8 GB of LPDDR5x RAM, and 128 GB or 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Google lists a typical battery capacity of 4,492 mAh, fast charging, Qi-certified wireless charging, and a Titan M2 security coprocessor. These are specifications, not independent performance findings. Google’s Pixel 8a (2024) hardware specifications has the detailed device information.
Google’s launch copy also promoted Gemini, Circle to Search, Pixel Call Assist features, and Audio Emoji. Those are Google’s product descriptions; the launch announcement does not by itself establish independent test results for them.

Software support and the remaining value of the launch announcement
Google specifies seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates for the Pixel 8a. In its launch announcement, Google product management director Soniya Jobanputra said: “And Pixel 8a will receive seven years of software support, including security updates and Android OS upgrades.” See Google’s announcement and the Pixel 8a support specifications.
The announcement is useful for understanding what Google offered at launch, but it does not establish current stock, pricing, or promotions. Check the seller and carrier’s current terms before treating any old launch figure as a deal that can still be claimed.
