Yes. Buffer lists Google Photos as a media integration, so you can browse your Google Photos library, pick an image or video, and attach it to a post in Buffer’s web composer. Buffer says this cloud-media attachment flow is not available in its mobile apps, so the web app is the workflow to use. Zapier is a separate route: it can push content into Buffer when something happens in another app, but it does not browse your photo library, and any media it fetches must be a direct file link.

How to attach a Google Photos image or video to a Buffer post

The Google Photos connection is a media picker inside Buffer’s composer. It works in three stages: authorize, browse, and attach.

  1. Sign in to Buffer in a desktop browser and open the composer for the post you are writing.
  2. Use the media attachment option in the composer and choose Google Photos from the connected media providers.
  3. When prompted, complete the authorization flow. Buffer’s documentation names Uploadcare as the service that facilitates this connection to Google Photos, Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive.
  4. Browse your library, select the image or video, and attach it.
  5. Finish the caption, choose the destination profiles, and schedule or publish the post as you normally would.

Team accounts

If your Buffer organization has more than one user, authorization is personal. Each team member connects their own storage account. One person’s authorization does not let a colleague browse that person’s Google Photos library. If a teammate says the expected photos are missing, first check which Google account they authorized.

Mobile apps

Buffer’s help documentation states that this cloud-media attachment feature is unavailable in its mobile apps. If you need to attach a Google Photos item, switch to the web composer. Do not expect the provider to appear in the mobile app.

What the Google Photos connection does not do

The documented feature is manual attachment. It is not a two-way sync, and Buffer’s documentation does not describe a native trigger that publishes every newly added Google Photos asset. If you want new photos to create Buffer content automatically, you need a different mechanism, such as a Zapier workflow built around another app’s event. That route is covered below.

When Zapier makes sense

Zapier fits workflows where an event outside Buffer should create or queue Buffer content. A typical example is a new row in a spreadsheet or a form submission that should become a Buffer idea or draft. Buffer’s Zapier listing describes triggers for new sent items, drafts, contributions, and ideas, and actions for adding ideas, adding posts, and uploading media. Available actions and channel-specific fields can change, so check them in the live Zap editor before you build the workflow.

Media in a Zap must be a direct download link

When a Zap sends an image or video to Buffer, Buffer’s help article on Zapier requires a file URL that the service can fetch itself. A browser share link is often not enough. Buffer’s help article makes this point with a cloud-drive example, distinguishing a share page from a direct-download URL. Share-link formats differ between services, so do not assume a Google Drive pattern will work for Google Photos. Test the link yourself.

“Many cloud drives or image hosting services provide ‘share links’ for the media they host. That said, not all of these share links will allow third-party services to access and download the content automatically.”

Buffer Help Center, “Using Zapier with Buffer”

A quick check: paste the link into a private browser window. If it opens a preview page rather than the file itself, or asks you to sign in, Buffer will probably not be able to fetch it.

Two different Zapier setups

Buffer’s integration page describes two separate Zapier paths. The ordinary Zap connection uses a standard authorization flow for building triggers and actions. A separate MCP client setup, used for AI-assistant workflows, has its own authentication instructions. Follow the ordinary Zap instructions unless you specifically mean the MCP workflow.

Direct picker or Zapier: which to use

Your goal Google Photos media picker in Buffer Zapier workflow
Choose an existing photo by hand Best fit. Browse and attach it in the web composer. Unnecessary unless another app is part of the process.
Start a Buffer action when something happens in another app Not supported by the documented picker workflow. Best fit. Use a Zapier trigger and a Buffer action.
Attach media from a link Not the intended route. Possible if the link is a direct file URL that Buffer can fetch.
Work from the Buffer mobile app Not available, according to Buffer’s help documentation. Depends on Zapier and the connected apps. Do not assume it replaces the native mobile picker.

Media limits by social network

Each network sets its own image and video rules, and Buffer’s guidance changes over time. At the time of writing, Buffer’s media guidance gives these examples of image counts per post:

Network Images per post, per Buffer’s current guidance
Instagram 10
Facebook 10
X 4
LinkedIn 20
Threads 20

These figures are operational limits set in Buffer’s documentation, not independent measurements. Buffer also states that API or integration posts exceeding a destination’s limit are rejected up front with an error message. Check the live limits table before you build a multi-image post, because supported counts and post types can change.

Troubleshooting

  • The Google Photos option is missing. Confirm you are in the web composer, not the mobile app. Buffer says this feature is unavailable on mobile.
  • A teammate cannot see expected photos. Each user must authorize their own Google account. Ask them to check which account they connected.
  • A Zap creates a post without media. The media URL is probably a share or preview page. Confirm that it returns the file directly and does not require an interactive sign-in.
  • A post fails to publish. Buffer’s Zapier listing identifies common causes as network restrictions, unsupported media, and expired social profile authorization. Reconnect the affected profile, then check the media against that network’s limits.
