To enable the waiting room for a scheduled Google Meet, open the event in Google Calendar, select Video call options, choose Waiting room, turn it on, and save the event. During the meeting, the host can review the queue under People and admit one participant or everyone waiting.
Enable the waiting room for a scheduled meeting
- In Google Calendar, create or edit the event and add Google Meet video conferencing.
- Open Video call options, select the Waiting room tab, and turn on Waiting room.
- Select Save to apply the setting to the event.
Google Meet Help describes the feature this way: “A waiting room helps you control who enters and leaves your meeting, and when.”
Choose how participants enter
You can leave admission under host control, or enable Bring in automatically for participants arriving after the host joins. Google notes that if a co-host joins, the meeting automatically starts and everyone is moved into it.

Admit people during the meeting
- Open People in the meeting.
- Review the In the waiting room list.
- Select Bring in beside one participant, or choose Bring everyone in to admit the queue.
Hosts can also move a participant from the main meeting back to the waiting room.

Turn on waiting rooms for an active call
For a Meet or Gmail call already started on a computer, Google documents an in-meeting Waiting room toggle. First make sure the waiting room is enabled for the meeting, then use that toggle. The controls for calls started this way may not match the Calendar event setup tabs.
Use the mobile controls
Google documents a separate mobile control path. Follow the steps in Google Meet Help’s waiting-room instructions for the mobile interface rather than looking for the desktop Calendar tabs in the app.

If you cannot find the setting
The setting may be unavailable because of your Workspace edition, staged feature availability, or administrator settings. Confirm that you are signed in to the correct Google account. If the option is still missing, ask your organization’s administrator whether the account has access; Google’s feature documentation does not establish that every account has the control.
