Yes—you can give a Linux desktop a Fluent, Windows 11-inspired appearance, but the right theme depends on your desktop environment. GNOME and other GTK desktops can use the Fluent GTK theme, while KDE Plasma has separate Fluent KDE and Windows Modern options. The GTK theme changes GTK application styling; it does not automatically replace your desktop’s panels, launcher, or every app’s interface.
Choose the theme that matches your Linux desktop

These are distinct projects rather than interchangeable modes of one theme. If you are unsure which desktop you use, check your distribution’s desktop settings or system information before installing: choosing a GTK theme for Plasma, or a Plasma theme for GNOME, will not transform the other environment’s shell.
Install Fluent GTK on GNOME or another GTK desktop
The Fluent GTK project’s README lists GTK 3.20 or later, gnome-themes-extra (or gnome-themes-standard), the Murrine engine, and sassc as requirements or build dependencies. Murrine package names vary by distribution; consult the project README and your distribution’s package documentation rather than assuming one command works everywhere.
- Review the current requirements and installation instructions in the Fluent GTK repository, then install the packages appropriate for your distribution.
- Download or clone the project using the method documented in its README, and open a terminal in the project directory.
- Run
./install.sh. The script supports options for the install destination and theme name, color, light or dark appearance, standard or compact sizing, and a shell icon variant. Check the README for the exact option names and available choices. - Use your desktop’s appearance settings to select the installed GTK theme. The exact settings path varies by desktop and distribution.
The script also documents an optional --libadwaita option that creates a GTK4 configuration link. That option does not guarantee that every GTK4 or libadwaita application will be completely or consistently themed.

Add the Fluent icon pack separately
Fluent icons are a companion, not a component that the GTK theme installs automatically. The Fluent icon theme repository has its own install script and documents standard and several color variants. Install and select it separately if you want matching application icons; you can also use Fluent GTK without it.
Use a KDE-specific option on Plasma
Fluent KDE
Fluent KDE is the Plasma route for the Fluent visual style. Its README describes multiple theme components, including Aurorae, Kvantum, color schemes, desktop themes, and look-and-feel. The project recommends Kvantum and the separate Fluent icon theme; follow its current README for installation and component setup.

Windows Modern for Plasma 6
If you want more than application styling, Windows Modern aims for a broader Windows 11-inspired Plasma setup. Its project documentation targets Plasma 6, requires Kvantum, and says it will not work on Plasma 5. The v1.0.0 release, dated July 15, 2026, documents the package overview and those requirements.
Some Windows Modern components have compiled applet dependencies; you do not need every optional component for every setup. Its greeter is opt-in and replaces the system login manager, so it is not a routine theme step. Review what each component changes before installing it, especially anything that affects login.

What a Fluent makeover does—and does not—change
- GTK theme: changes supported GTK application styling, subject to application and toolkit compatibility.
- Icon pack: changes application icons when selected separately.
- Desktop shell: panels, launchers, applets, and overall layout may need separate desktop-specific components.
- Qt applications: a GTK theme does not by itself style Qt applications; KDE-specific tools and themes address that side of the desktop.
For a Windows 11-like result, choose components for your actual desktop and decide how far you want to go: application styling alone, a coordinated icon set, or a wider Plasma shell layout. No single Fluent GTK install should be treated as a guaranteed one-click Windows clone.
