The most useful review keys depend on the page you are viewing: press ? to see the shortcuts available in that view. The shortcuts below are documented actions, not a measured promise of time saved.
Find the shortcuts available on your current GitHub page
GitHub organizes keyboard shortcuts by context. As GitHub Docs explains in Keyboard shortcuts, “Typing ? on GitHub brings up a dialog box that lists the keyboard shortcuts available for that page.” Start there if a key below does not work in your current view.
GitHub also lets you disable character-key shortcuts in accessibility settings while keeping modifier-key shortcuts available. This matters if single-letter keys interfere with typing or assistive technology.
GitHub shortcuts for navigating and reviewing a pull request
| Where you are | Shortcut | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Any GitHub page | ? | Opens the shortcut dialog for the current page. |
| Repository navigation | G, then P | Opens the repository’s Pull requests tab. Press the keys in sequence, not as a simultaneous chord. |
| Issues and pull requests | Q | Requests a reviewer. |
| Pull request, Files changed tab | T | Moves focus to the changed-file filter. |
| Pull request, Files changed tab | C | Opens the Commits dropdown, which filters the commits shown in the diffs. |
| Pull request, Files changed tab | Command+Shift+Enter (Mac); Ctrl+Shift+Enter (Windows/Linux) | Submits a review comment. |
| Comments | Command+Enter (Mac); Ctrl+Enter (Windows/Linux) | Submits a comment. This is the shortcut listed for the Comments context, not the Files changed review-comment shortcut above. |
| Comments | Command+G (Mac); Ctrl+G (Windows/Linux) | Inserts a suggestion. |
Use the shortcuts in a deliberate review workflow
Shortcuts help with navigation and comment entry; they do not replace understanding the change. For a substantial pull request, a repeatable sequence makes it easier to retain context and track what you have checked.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Read the pull request summary and relevant discussion. Understand the intended change and any decisions already made before judging individual lines.
- Open Files changed. Use T to focus the changed-file filter when the file list is long. Use C to select a commit when you need to inspect the diffs for a particular commit.
- Review one file at a time. For large or complex diffs, GitHub recommends this approach. Mark each file Viewed as you finish it; the progress bar helps you track coverage.
- Leave focused feedback. Add comments where a question or issue belongs. When an exact edit is clearer than a prose description, use a suggestion block so the author can apply the proposed change in one click. GitHub’s review quickstart explains pending comments and suggestions.
- Check relevant automated signals. Dependency review and code scanning can provide checks beyond reading the diff. Treat those checks as additional information, not a substitute for reviewing the code and its context.
- Submit a clear review decision. Pending comments are visible only to you until you submit the review. At submission, choose Comment, Approve, or Request changes as appropriate.
GitHub describes the final decision as guidance to the author: “When you finish a review, you submit it with a decision that tells the author what to do next:” See Giving reviews for how review decisions work.
What the review shortcuts do—and do not—save
The practical benefit is fewer navigation steps for common tasks: focusing the file filter, narrowing diffs to a commit, and submitting comments from the relevant view. The keys do not assess correctness, guarantee that every file has been considered, or establish a particular time saving. Use the Viewed state and progress indicator to monitor coverage, and make the final decision based on your review.

Copilot code review is an optional aid
GitHub Copilot can be requested as a pull request reviewer, and automatic reviews can be configured in supported circumstances. GitHub’s Copilot code review documentation says its default review decision is Comment—not Approve or Request changes. Copilot may suggest changes, but a human reviewer still needs to assess its comments and submit the appropriate decision.
New pushes do not automatically trigger another Copilot review unless automatic review is configured for new pushes. Copilot can also repeat earlier comments when reviewing again, including comments that were previously resolved or downvoted. Check the current configuration guidance before relying on a particular setting: controls and plan availability can change. The documented configuration page describes automatic review of a user’s own pull requests as available on Copilot Pro, Pro+, and Max plans, and with a Copilot Business or Enterprise license, subject to account limitations; its Max review-effort setting was labeled Coming soon.
