October 10 has been designated as Gintama Day, a commemorative day for the franchise chosen to coincide with protagonist Gintoki Sakata’s birthday. The announcement also outlines an anime-streaming event and cinema screenings, but it does not declare a Japanese national public holiday or a day off.
Why October 10 is Gintama Day
The Gintama 20th Anniversary official site announced the designation on September 26, 2026, saying the date was selected because it is Gintoki Sakata’s birthday. The notice says the day was designated after an application to the anniversary association. It is a franchise commemoration, not evidence that October 10 is a statutory or nationwide public holiday.

What viewers still need to know
Sunrise said the detailed schedule and livestream URL would be announced later. The September 26 notice therefore does not establish a verified stream link or a more precise timetable. Check the official Sunrise notice for updates rather than relying on an unverified link or venue listing.
