Is giffgaff any good? It may suit UK users who want a flexible SIM-only service and value month-to-month plan options, but whether it works well for you depends heavily on coverage where you use your phone. giffgaff runs on O2’s mobile network; check the postcode-specific coverage and network status before switching. Ofcom’s 2025 report found high customer satisfaction among giffgaff customers, while self-selected Trustpilot reviews are more mixed.
Does giffgaff use O2, and how is coverage?
Yes. giffgaff says its mobile service uses O2’s network, and Ofcom also identifies giffgaff as an O2-network provider. That shared host network does not guarantee identical reception, speeds or service for every user, device or location.
Coverage can vary by postcode, building and the places you travel. Before switching, use giffgaff’s coverage checker for the locations that matter to you, such as home, work and regular routes. Check its network status information as well. Ofcom cautions that reported reception satisfaction can reflect expectations, phone use and demographic differences as well as network performance.
If your giffgaff phone is not connecting
giffgaff’s troubleshooting guidance suggests checking local coverage and network status, confirming that your account has an active plan or credit, and checking the device’s connection settings. One suggested step is to select another network manually, then switch back to giffgaff or O2-UK. See the provider’s network connection help for the current steps.

Are giffgaff plans worth it?
The main appeal is choice: giffgaff offers monthly-rolling plans alongside PAYG and longer-term options. Monthly-rolling plans are advertised as changeable month to month, which can be useful if your data needs or budget shift. Whether the price is good value depends on the allowance you need, local service quality, and the terms you compare it with.
At the time the plan pages were reviewed, the SIM-only overview listed monthly-rolling allowances from 2 GB to unlimited, with displayed prices from £6 to £25 before any time-limited promotion. A separate monthly-rolling offer page showed 26 GB for £12, with unlimited UK calls and texts, monthly renewal and the ability to change plans. These are dated page observations, not guaranteed current prices or offers: check the live SIM-only deals before buying. giffgaff’s terms allow price or allowance changes with notice.

Understand monthly renewal and PAYG credit
A plan lasts a calendar month and includes a set allowance of data, calls and texts. Credit may be used for services outside the plan or when an active plan does not cover your usage. Check whether auto-renew is enabled and how to manage it if you do not want the plan to renew automatically. The monthly plan guide explains plan duration, renewal and purchasing options.
- Compare the ongoing price, not just a promotional price, with the data allowance you actually use.
- Check contract length, cancellation and plan-change rules before choosing a longer-term option.
- Confirm what happens if you use up your plan allowance, including whether credit may be used.
Does giffgaff include roaming?
The reviewed plan pages advertised up to 5 GB of EU roaming data at no extra cost. This is a cap, not unlimited roaming, and it does not mean free roaming worldwide. giffgaff’s terms say roaming is intended for periodic travel; eligible destinations and fair-use rules may change. Data used beyond the applicable cap may be charged at 10p per MB under the reviewed terms.

Before travelling, check the live roaming destinations and charges and the exact rules for your plan. Do not assume a destination is included or that the same cap applies indefinitely.
Can I use 5G on giffgaff?
giffgaff advertises 5G at no extra cost on the reviewed plan pages, but access depends on several conditions: you need a 5G-capable handset, 5G enabled in your account and device settings, and 5G coverage where you are using the phone. A plan listing does not establish 5G availability at a particular address or guarantee a specific speed. The provider’s terms state that 5G roaming is not currently available.

Trustpilot feedback
When accessed on 4 October 2026, giffgaff’s Trustpilot profile showed a 3.6 score from 31,514 reviews. Its summary reflected praise for affordability and flexible plans, alongside complaints about signal stability, speeds and reaching support. Trustpilot reviews are individual, self-selected accounts rather than a representative survey; the score, count and recent themes can change. How should you compare giffgaff with other providers?
Compare the service and terms you would actually get, not just the network name. Ofcom notes that providers may share host networks, so the network label alone does not settle which option will work best for you.
