Ghost, the startup behind Core, has raised a reported $11 million seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz. Its first product is a $3,499 screenless computer designed to run AI models and agents locally. TechCrunch reported on October 5, 2026, that Ghost founder and Core CEO Zain Javaid was 19 at the time of publication; that age is a dated detail, not a timeless description.
What is Ghost Core?
Ghost calls Core “the personal AI computer.” It is a screenless desktop system intended to keep AI models and agents running on the user’s own hardware. Ghost says it connects to apps, files, and devices and builds context continuously. Rather than interacting with a built-in display, users access Core through a phone or app; TechCrunch reports that voice input is available through the app.
Javaid described the product to TechCrunch as a “brain in a box.” The company positions Core as a system purpose-built for AI agents, rather than a general-purpose computer that a user configures for AI.

TechCrunch also reports that users can install models from Hugging Face or load their own.
How much does Ghost Core cost?
Ghost lists Core at $3,499 on its official product page, with an order option. The listed GPU is part of the system specification, not an extra purchase presented as necessary to use Core. Availability details can change: TechCrunch reported preorders opened on October 5 and estimated shipping in the last week of October 2026, while Ghost’s page said the first batch was open when checked October 7.

What does Ghost say about privacy and control?
Ghost’s product page states, “No data ever leaves your home, and your AI is owned entirely by you.” That is the company’s privacy claim, not an independently verified guarantee. TechCrunch attributes to Javaid further claims that data is encrypted, personal memory stays local, and users can control how much autonomy agents have. The launch reporting and product page do not provide independent security audits or customer testing to validate those claims.
Javaid also told TechCrunch that Core should continue working if Ghost shuts down. That is a claim about intended continuity, not a demonstrated reliability finding. Buyers should distinguish the company’s design promises from evidence about real-world operation, security, and support.

Who founded Ghost, and who funded it?
TechCrunch reported on October 5, 2026, that 19-year-old Zain Javaid founded Ghost and serves as Core’s CEO. The publication reported an $11 million seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz, with Abstract, Audacious Ventures, SV Angel, and Nova also participating. The funding and age details are attributed to TechCrunch’s report, rather than Ghost’s product page.

TechCrunch reported Javaid’s distinction: Core is purpose-built around AI agents, while he characterized the Mac mini as a general-purpose computer that can be configured for AI. The available launch information does not establish a like-for-like benchmark, validated competitor, or independent comparison of performance, setup effort, or long-term maintenance. A buyer comparing local-AI systems should evaluate the full price and included hardware, memory and GPU capacity, supported models and flexibility to install others, software setup and upkeep, and how privacy claims are verified.
