Start with the LXI Consortium’s current Device Specification and the matching extended-function documents, then define which capabilities your instrument actually needs. Build and verify against those requirements; do not claim LXI compliance or use the LXI mark until the instrument passes certification testing and receives Conformance Committee approval.
1. Choose the right LXI specification baseline
The LXI Consortium identifies the LXI 1.6 family as current on its specifications page. Begin there, then use the LXI 1.6 version index to find the Device Specification and the applicable extended-function documents.

Do not assume every document in the family has the same revision number or date. Check the Device Specification’s conformance references and use the versions it associates with the target. Confirm the index again before locking a product design, since specifications can change.
2. Decide which capabilities the instrument needs
The Consortium describes Ethernet connectivity, a browser interface, and IVI drivers as core LXI features. IEEE 1588 clock synchronization, LXI Events, and the Wired Trigger Bus are optional extended capabilities for devices that support them. The summary is a useful scoping aid, not a substitute for each feature’s normative requirements; consult the relevant documents in the specification index.

#1 Best Overall
- 【5½ Digit Resolution for Reliable Bench Measurements】RIGOL DM3058E is a professional bench digital multimeter with 5½ digit resolution and up to 50,000 counts, designed for accurate, repeatable electrical measurements in laboratories, engineering departments, classrooms, and production environments.
- 【High DC Voltage Accuracy】With up to 0.015% basic DC voltage accuracy, the DM3058E helps users capture small signal changes with confidence. It is suitable for circuit validation, component characterization, power supply testing, maintenance, and quality-control applications.
- 【Multiple Essential Measurement Functions】Perform common electrical measurements including DC voltage, AC voltage, DC current, AC current, resistance, capacitance, frequency, period, continuity, diode testing, and temperature measurement. One instrument supports a wide range of daily test and troubleshooting tasks.
- 【Dual Display for Faster Test Workflows】The dual-display interface allows two measurement parameters to be viewed at the same time, helping reduce setup changes and improving efficiency during test, comparison, and monitoring applications.
- 【Remote Control and Data Connectivity】Built for automated and connected test systems, the DM3058E supports remote communication through USB, LAN, and RS-232 interfaces. It is compatible with SCPI programming commands for streamlined data collection, remote control, and system integration.
- Ethernet, browser interface, and IVI drivers: account for the core feature set in the device architecture and verification plan.
- IEEE 1588: include it when the system needs synchronized timing, and verify support across the selected Ethernet hardware, driver stack, and operating system.
- LXI Events: assess whether the instrument must exchange event messages with other system components.
- Wired Trigger Bus: assess whether the application requires the corresponding physical trigger capability.
Use the LXI core-features summary to orient the feature discussion, then confirm implementation details against the version-matched specification documents.
3. Evaluate the reference design and platform constraints
The Consortium presents its LXI Reference Design as a technical blueprint for instrument vendors. Review the Reference Design Overview and the V1.50 resource page before choosing an implementation path.
The V1.50 information notes that clock synchronization depends on hardware. It identifies linuxptp as an available Linux solution and discusses Windows drivers available to LXI members with the reference design. Treat these as platform considerations, not a guarantee that a particular board, driver, or operating-system configuration will meet your target. Verify current resource availability and hardware support for the design you select.
4. Plan compliance before making product claims
Certification is not just a label to add after development. The Consortium says vendors must pass all certification tests and receive approval from the LXI Conformance Committee before using the LXI logo or the letters “LXI” on an instrument or in promotional material. Build conformance work into the schedule, and review the current process on the LXI Conformance page.
Rank #2
- PROFESSIONAL 0.3% FULL-SCALE ACCURACY: A differential manometer rated to 0.3% FS accuracy across a 60 in. water column range. Measures positive, negative, and differential (delta-P) pressure from two inputs for reliable readings when setting gas pressure on furnaces, boilers, and appliances.
- 11 SELECTABLE UNITS WITH AUTO-RANGING: Switch between inH2O, PSI, Bar, mBar, kPa, inHg, mmHg, oz/in2, FtH2O, cmH2O, and kg/cm2 using the SCALE button. The auto-ranging design selects the right resolution automatically, with no manual range setting needed.
- DUAL-PORT DIFFERENTIAL TESTING: Use both ports for live differential measurement, or vent one port to read a single source. Built for HVAC static pressure, draft, gas supply, manifold, and burner pressure on natural gas and LP systems.
- RECORD, HOLD, ZERO: Capture Max, Min, and Average pressure with REC, freeze any reading with HOLD, and zero the sensors to cancel ambient drift. A large, high-contrast backlit LCD keeps digits readable in dark mechanical rooms and crawl spaces.
- HANDS-FREE AND FIELD-READY, BACKED BY UEI: A built-in magnet on the protective rubber boot frees both hands at the equipment, and it runs on a single standard 9V battery with auto power-off. Includes two 18 in. silicone hoses, a 1-year limited warranty, and ISO 17025-compliant, NIST-traceable calibration.
The Consortium describes membership as providing access to conformance information, reference-design software, and the current conformance test suite. Its conformance page also names TSEP as a supplier of special hardware required by the suite. Check the page for current access and equipment details; it does not establish current product models, availability, or pricing.

The Consortium’s Getting Started Guide provides a basic connection and discovery walkthrough. Its example setup calls for a computer with an active LAN port, a LAN switch or router, three LAN cables, an LXI device, the LXI Discovery Tool, and Bonjour Print Services for Windows.
- Assemble the network: connect the computer and LXI device through the switch or router using LAN cables. The guide’s three-cable list describes its example setup, not a certification requirement.
- Configure the device’s LAN: follow the instrument’s own documentation. The guide notes that LAN configuration varies by device.
- Run discovery: use the LXI Discovery Tool as described in the guide to locate the instrument on the network.
- Open the device page: browse to the discovered device’s web page to view its interface and identification information.
The guide is dated 2013, so use it as a connection walkthrough rather than an authority on current software installation. Check current tool instructions and the target instrument’s documentation for present-day setup details.
6. Compare implementation paths against the real project
Before committing to an architecture, compare options against concrete requirements rather than treating every optional extension as mandatory:
Quick Recap
- Feature scope: which core requirements and optional functions are needed by the instrument and the larger test system?
- Timing and hardware: if IEEE 1588 is required, does the selected Ethernet hardware and software stack support the intended behavior?
- Operating system and software: what current code, drivers, or other platform support are available for the chosen design?
- Conformance readiness: can the team access the applicable specifications and test resources, obtain any required test equipment, and complete certification before public compliance claims?
- Bring-up setup: is LAN connectivity available, and does the team understand the instrument-specific configuration and discovery workflow?
