If a Farming Simulator 25 mod is missing or will not load, first identify where the failure happens: the mod may not be installed or recognized, it may be installed but unavailable for a particular save, or it may cause the save or multiplayer session to fail. Compare the problem with a known FS25 ModHub mod, then check the correct installation route, the mod’s archive and compatibility, and—if loading fails—test with mods set aside on a new save before changing an established farm.

GIANTS Software’s FS25 manual directs players on all platforms to get mods through Downloadable Content in the main menu. Its ModHub separates FS25 content from FS22 content and includes a crossplay category. That makes an in-game ModHub installation a useful comparison, but it does not mean that every PC mod—or an FS22 mod—can be used on a console.
Before troubleshooting, note which platform and storefront you use, whether one mod or all mods are affected, and the exact point where the problem starts. Those distinctions matter: a single manual download points toward that archive or release, while several missing mods suggest checking the game’s active user-data folder or the installation route. If the mod is visible but only one established save refuses to load, preserve that save while you test.

How can I tell whether the problem is the mod or the installation?
Install one known FS25 mod from the in-game ModHub and check whether it appears. If the known mod works but one manual download does not, focus on that download’s folder, archive structure, filename, and FS25 compatibility; if no mods appear, check the installation route and active user-data folder first.
- Open the game’s main menu and choose Downloadable Content.
- Install a clearly identified FS25 ModHub mod, then check whether it appears among downloaded content and in the relevant save’s mod-selection screen.
- If it appears, compare its behavior with the missing mod. A one-mod problem points toward that archive or its compatibility; a broader problem warrants checking the game build and the platform-specific installation location.
This is a diagnostic comparison, not proof that the ModHub mod and a manually downloaded mod have identical requirements. Some mods may require other mods, and the multiplayer host may require a particular set. Keep track of what you changed so you can undo a test without disturbing other downloads.
Also distinguish installation from availability. A mod can be installed yet not be available for a particular save, and a mod-selection screen may identify entries as outdated or unavailable. Check that screen before you assume the download vanished. Where is the FS25 mods folder on PC or Mac?
On a typical Windows PC installation, manually downloaded mods belong in Documents/My Games/FarmingSimulator2025/mods, not in a new mods folder beside the game executable. The active location can differ by storefront, so confirm which edition you use instead of creating duplicate folders.

The Microsoft Store location is an edition-specific example, not a universal path. If a download is sitting in another folder, placing it there does not make the game recognize it. macOS
A GIANTS forum folder guide gives ~/Library/Application Support/FarmingSimulator2025 as the user-data location for direct-download or Steam installations. It gives ~/Library/Containers/FarmingSimulator2025/Data/Library/Application Support/FarmingSimulator2025 as an FS25 Mac App Store example. log.txt is in the parent user-data folder, alongside the mods folder—not inside an individual mod archive. It can help distinguish a folder-recognition problem from a compatibility or loading error.
Use the path for the edition you actually run. The standard Windows directory and the documented Microsoft Store directory are alternatives, not two folders you should create and fill just in case. Similarly, a Mac App Store container path is not interchangeable with the direct-download or Steam path. If you find multiple Farming Simulator user-data directories, check which one contains the current log.txt after launching the game; that is a practical clue to the active location.

For consoles, the PC folder instructions do not apply. The manual’s in-game Downloadable Content route is the supported route described for all platforms. Do not try to make a console read a PC’s local ZIP by copying it into a computer folder or by assuming that a console has the same file structure.
Should I unzip a downloaded mod?
Usually, a correctly packaged standalone mod should remain a ZIP file in the active mods folder. Do not unzip every download: first open the archive and determine whether it is a mod, a pack of multiple mod archives, or a ZIP with an extra enclosing folder.
- Standalone mod archive: Keep the ZIP in the active
modsfolder if it contains the mod’s files in the expected package structure. - Outer pack containing several ZIPs: Read the creator’s instructions and inspect the contents. The game may need the individual mod archives in its active folder rather than the outer pack.
- Extra enclosing directory: If opening the downloaded ZIP reveals only another folder that contains the actual mod files, the extra nesting may prevent recognition. Follow the creator’s packaging instructions and make sure the game can reach the mod files at the expected level.
These are different archive problems, and blindly extracting a valid ZIP can create a new one. A GIANTS forum troubleshooting discussion also flags problematic filenames and outdated games as possible causes. Check that the download is intended for FS25 and that its filename is intact; a filename prefix alone does not establish compatibility.
When checking an archive, look at what is inside rather than relying only on its displayed name. A single correctly packaged mod, a bundle containing several mod ZIPs, and a ZIP that adds an unnecessary outer directory are not the same structure. The appropriate action depends on which one you have. Preserve the original download until you have confirmed the game recognizes the correctly placed version, so you can undo a mistaken extraction or move.
If the creator supplies installation directions, follow those directions for that specific file. Do not rename an archive to make it look like an FS25 release: a familiar filename or an FS25_ prefix alone does not prove that the contents support FS25. Check the mod page or creator’s notes for the intended game and any dependencies.
Could the game version make a mod unavailable?
Yes. A mod can be incompatible with the installed game build, and an outdated game can also have trouble recognizing or updating content. GIANTS’ update page lists version 1.25.0.0, dated October 20, 2026, as the latest version shown at the time of this article; check the current update page because the latest build can change.
- Check for an FS25 game update through the platform or storefront where you own the game.
- Check the mod’s own page or creator instructions for an FS25 release compatible with your game build.
- After an update, restart the game and recheck downloaded content and the save’s mod-selection screen.
Restarting is a low-risk check, not a guaranteed fix. GIANTS’ changelog records an earlier fix for ModHub updates not being applied correctly without restarting, as well as past improvements to the mod-selection screen and outdated-mod selection. Those past fixes do not prove that a similar problem exists in the current build.
Do not try to force an incompatible mod to load by changing a version number in its description file. A documented forum case involved an older Mac App Store build reporting Error: Unsupported mod description version in mod FS25_Courseplay; manually changing the description number did not repair the mod. The more reliable path is to update the game and obtain a release intended for the compatible FS25 build.
That error is useful because it names a compatibility problem, but editing a description number only changes a label; it does not update the mod’s contents or make the installed game understand them. If an error identifies a mod or its description version, keep the message intact, check the game’s build, and seek a compatible mod release. Avoid modifying files as a first response, especially when you may need to restore the original archive.

Version information is a moving target. The 1.25.0.0 number is a marker for the version GIANTS displayed on October 20, 2026, not a promise that it remains the newest build indefinitely. Use the current GIANTS update page and the update channel for your storefront when diagnosing a later installation.
How do I fix a save that crashes or will not load?
Separate the mod-loading problem from the save itself before making changes to an established farm. GIANTS recommends removing mods and trying a new savegame; the company notes that mods can conflict with the game or with each other and cause loading issues or crashes.
- Set aside the mod files. Make a copy of the relevant files or move them temporarily out of the active
modsfolder so you can restore them. Do not begin by deleting an established save. - Test a new save with mods removed. If a new save loads without mods, the issue is likely in the mod set or its interaction with the save. If it still fails, preserve the error details and investigate the game installation or contact support.

log.txt. Look for the mod name and the error around the failed load. Note the exact message and when it occurs; this is more useful than reporting only that the game “doesn’t work.” - Narrow down the mod set. Reintroduce suspected mods in manageable groups, testing between changes. This is a practical isolation method, not a group size prescribed by GIANTS. When a failure returns, narrow the group further and check for missing dependencies or outdated releases.
- Escalate with evidence. If the unmodded new-save test also fails, provide GIANTS support with your platform, the exact error, and
log.txt. Follow the instructions on the GIANTS support page for loading issues.
GIANTS’ SHIFT-launch Verify Installation option applies to PC copies bought on DVD or directly from GIANTS. If you bought the game through another storefront, use that storefront’s installation guidance rather than assuming the same option is available.
Keep the test narrow and reversible. The point of moving mods aside is to learn whether the game can load without them, not to erase your farm or permanently discard the mod collection. If the new unmodded save works, add back only a manageable group at a time and repeat the test. If the failure returns, narrow that group; if it does not, continue until the conflicting mod or combination is clearer. This method can take a few checks, but it is safer than changing many files and then not knowing which change mattered.
When reading log.txt, capture the message associated with the failed attempt and the named mod if one is listed. Include the platform and the steps that reproduce the issue when asking for help. GIANTS requests the log and error details for support; an exact message gives support a better starting point than a general claim that a mod is broken. There is no published failure-rate statistic that makes a forum report representative of all FS25 mods.
If the unmodded test fails too, stop treating an individual mod as the only possible cause. Preserve the log and error, follow the installation verification instructions available for your copy, and contact support if needed. Why does a mod appear locally but not in multiplayer?
A multiplayer session has its own requirements: participants need the mods required by the session, and a dedicated server has a separate mod list that its administrator must upload and activate. A mod present on your PC is not necessarily installed or enabled on the server.

- Confirm that each participant has the required FS25 content and any dependencies, rather than only a similarly named or outdated file.
- For a dedicated server, inspect its uploaded and activated mod list and required dependencies. The server’s files and settings—not the client’s local
modsfolder—control what the session runs.
Server controls vary by provider. Fragnet’s FS25 server documentation describes uploading and managing mods for Fragnet-hosted servers; its panel instructions should not be assumed to match other hosts. GIANTS’ changelog also records past Xbox mod-download and crossplay-filter fixes, so check the current build before treating an older report as a current platform-wide issue.
For a dedicated server, check both sides of the connection: the server administrator’s uploaded and activated list, and the participant’s required content. If the server panel reports a missing dependency, treat that as a server-management issue and check which required mod is absent. Fragnet documents the message “The mod is missing a dependency” in its own FS25 server documentation; that wording describes its panel context, not a universal in-game error guaranteed to appear on every host.

If the issue happens only in one multiplayer session, compare that session’s requirements with another known working session before reinstalling the game. A local mod library and a server’s active mod list are separate, and server settings vary across providers. Use the host’s instructions for its own panel rather than assuming that steps for one provider apply to another.
What should I check on a console?
Use the game’s main-menu Downloadable Content area and ModHub rather than copying a PC ZIP into a console installation. The FS25 manual’s in-game mod route applies to all platforms, but it does not make every PC mod available on console.
Confirm that the selected content is for FS25 and, if you need to play with people on other platforms, use the ModHub’s crossplay category as a guide. Does the FS25 1.25.0.0 update guarantee that every mod will work?

Can I use an FS22 mod in Farming Simulator 25?
