PhoneArena reported on Oct. 5, 2026, that Germany’s Federal Network Agency may classify the radio access network (RAN) as critical infrastructure, a step that could increase pressure on Deutsche Telekom to replace Huawei equipment. The proposal’s text and legal status have not been confirmed in the available official material, so any broader replacement remains a possibility, not an adopted requirement.
What Germany has already required—and what is only being reported
Germany has existing commitments covering two specific parts of 5G networks. A Bundestag summary published Apr. 1, 2026, says agreements with Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, and Telefónica require critical Huawei and ZTE components in 5G core networks to be removed by the end of 2026. It separately sets an end-of-2029 deadline to replace critical functions of those companies’ 5G network-management systems in access and transport networks with other manufacturers’ technical solutions. The Bundestag’s summary does not describe a blanket order to remove every Huawei radio unit.
The separately reported RAN classification is a different matter. PhoneArena’s Oct. 5, 2026, report describes a proposal by the Federal Network Agency, but the specific agency document and its legal effect are not established by the available official sources. A proposal or possible classification should not be read as a final rule requiring a particular replacement schedule. PhoneArena’s report is the source for that contingent claim.
Which parts of the network are at issue?
| Network area | What the stated policy or report covers | Status and timing |
|---|---|---|
| 5G core | Critical Huawei and ZTE components | Government agreements summarized by the Bundestag set removal by the end of 2026. |
| Access and transport networks | Critical functions of Huawei and ZTE 5G network-management systems | Government agreements summarized by the Bundestag set replacement with other manufacturers’ technical solutions by the end of 2029. |
| Radio access network (RAN) | Radio-network equipment and related infrastructure; the specific reported proposal’s scope and legal effect are not established in the available agency material | PhoneArena reported a possible critical-infrastructure classification on Oct. 5, 2026. It is not established here as an adopted requirement to replace all RAN hardware. |
The distinction matters because replacing management software is not the same as removing physical radio equipment. Germany’s existing end-2029 commitment is described in terms of critical network-management functions in access and transport networks; it should not be broadened into a confirmed requirement to replace every Huawei RAN component.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.

- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
What Deutsche Telekom says it had already done
In its 2024 annual report, Deutsche Telekom said it had phased Huawei out of its 5G core and did not use ZTE components. The company also said it was developing its own software to configure antennas and the transport network in place of Huawei’s proprietary software. It described that work as advancing its Open RAN strategy. These statements document the company’s position in its 2024 reporting; they do not establish a later completion milestone. Deutsche Telekom’s 2024 annual report provides the company’s account.
Why the T-Mobile connection is indirect
T-Mobile US is connected to the story because Deutsche Telekom is its parent company and majority shareholder. The reported German policy question concerns Deutsche Telekom’s German network. Nothing in the cited reporting or policy summary establishes a new German requirement directed at T-Mobile US’s U.S. wireless network.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
What alternative equipment is being used?
PhoneArena reports that Nokia equipment and Open RAN are in use at some sites. The available sources do not establish how many sites are involved, how large those deployments are, or their latest status. Nokia and Open RAN are therefore relevant examples in the reported transition, not evidence that a nationwide replacement is already complete.

Germany’s Federal Network Agency says its security catalogue and list of critical functions were prepared in agreement with the Federal Office for Information Security and the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information. The agency explains that the list helps determine critical components under the BSI Act. This is regulatory context, but it does not confirm the specific RAN proposal described in the October report. The agency’s security-catalogue page describes that framework.
