Gemini can use WhatsApp to draft and send messages and Spotify to find playlists and play music, but the story that these integrations were merely “on the way” dates to October 2024. Google later announced both capabilities. Whether they work for you depends on your device, location, language, account, subscription and the Gemini app surface you use.
What the October 2024 leak said
On October 9, 2024, MobileSyrup reported that Assemble Debug had shown Google testing Gemini extensions for WhatsApp, Spotify and Google Messages on Android. The examples described included sending a WhatsApp message and playing specific music through Spotify. At the time, the report characterized the features as still in testing, with no public release date. It was a contemporaneous report about a test, not Google’s confirmation of a launch.
What Google later announced
Google’s March 3, 2025 Gemini release notes subsequently documented both integrations. They said Spotify could play music and find playlists. Google also described Phone, Messages and WhatsApp extensions for making calls and drafting, refining and sending messages. The notes said those extensions were available in all Gemini languages.
Google’s announcement confirms that WhatsApp and Spotify capabilities moved beyond the reported test. It does not mean every capability is available on every device or Gemini surface.

Where the integrations are available
Google’s current Connected Apps availability information lists WhatsApp for the Gemini mobile app on Android devices and Spotify for the Gemini mobile app. Google cautions that supported apps and availability can vary by location, device, language, account, subscription and app surface. Do not assume that an integration available in Gemini on Android will behave the same way on iOS or the web, or that it is offered in every country.
For the requirements that apply to your account, check Google’s current availability table and the Connected Apps settings in Gemini. The settings let you connect or disconnect apps.

How to check your connected apps
- Open the Gemini app on your device.
- Open your profile menu and select Connected Apps (the exact menu presentation may vary by app version).
- Check whether WhatsApp or Spotify is listed and available for your account, then connect or disconnect it there.
If an app is missing or unavailable, consult Google’s availability table for your device, location, language, account and app surface rather than assuming the extension has been withdrawn.

Google says Android users can use the Phone, Messages and WhatsApp extensions even when Keep Activity is off. Its help page does not extend that exception to Spotify or to every connected app, so do not infer that Spotify works with Keep Activity disabled on the same basis.
