For dictating into work apps across your computer or phone, Wispr Flow is the more direct fit. It is designed to put speech into the active text field. Gemini is better suited to talking with Gemini or using voice features inside supported Google apps, but that is not the same as a general dictation tool for any app. The right choice depends on where you need text to go, whether your account can use the relevant feature, and how each service handles work data.
What counts as Gemini voice input?
“Gemini voice input” can refer to several different Google experiences: speaking with the Gemini mobile app, using voice search in Gmail, or creating and refining text by voice in Google Docs. These features are tied to their respective apps; they do not establish that Gemini can dictate into any text field across your device. Connected Workspace features can also depend on account eligibility and administrator settings.
Google announced voice capabilities for Gmail, Docs, and Keep on September 3, 2026. Yulie Kwon Kim, VP of Product, Google Workspace, described them as a way to “Speak naturally to draft documents, locate important information from your inbox, and capture fleeting thoughts quickly.” That describes voice-enabled work within Google services, rather than a universal system-wide dictation layer. Can you use voice typing in Google Docs?
Google’s Docs voice feature page says the feature is available on Android and iOS, in English, and requires an eligible Workspace or Google AI plan. It also describes availability through Workspace Experiments for personal accounts. Those conditions apply to this Docs feature; they should not be read as universal requirements or availability rules for every Gemini voice interaction. Check Google’s current Docs voice-typing information and Gemini’s current availability information for your account and location.

How Wispr Flow handles work dictation
Flow is built around dictating into the text field where you are working. Its documented workflow is to select a field, start dictation, speak, stop, and review the inserted text. On desktop, Flow inserts the completed text after you stop; it is not a live word-by-word transcript. It can remove filler words and clean up punctuation and self-corrections. Wispr lists work apps including Gmail, Google Docs, Slack, Outlook, Notion, Linear, and Obsidian, and describes support for text fields on Mac and Windows. See Wispr Flow’s usage documentation and its platform and app information.
Wispr’s requirements page, updated September 29, 2026, lists Mac, Windows, iPhone, and Android. A working microphone is required on every platform, and transcription requires an internet connection. The page lists iPad, Linux, Chromebooks, virtual machines, and remote desktop environments as unsupported. Review the current system requirements before relying on Flow in a particular setup.

Which one should you choose?
Choose Wispr Flow for cross-app dictation
Flow is the clearer choice if your routine is to speak text into fields in email, messaging, documents, or other supported apps. Its active-field workflow and text cleanup are specifically aimed at that task. Confirm that your platform is supported and that your organization permits the service before using it for work content.
Choose Gemini for voice work inside Google
Gemini is a better fit if you want to converse with Gemini or use voice-enabled drafting, refinement, or search in Google services. First check the availability requirements for the exact feature you want: one feature’s eligibility does not guarantee access to another, and Workspace administrators can affect availability.

Try both if your day includes both workflows
The tools solve overlapping but different problems. A person might use Gemini to find or shape information within Google services and use Flow to dictate into fields across other apps. Whether that combination is useful depends on the available features, account rules, and privacy review—not on an assumed accuracy advantage.
Is Wispr Flow free?
Wispr’s pricing page lists a free Starter tier with 100 dictation minutes per month and a paid Flow tier with unlimited dictation and additional features. The page shows different prices for monthly and annual billing; check Wispr’s current pricing page for the applicable price before subscribing. Google’s feature documentation describes eligibility tied to Workspace or Google AI plans for certain voice features, but does not establish a comparable standalone price for “Gemini voice input.” Compare against the Google plan you already have rather than treating voice input as a separately priced product.

Is voice dictation safe for work documents?
Both convenience and organizational policy matter when dictating work material. Google says Workspace interactions stay within the organization and content is not used for model training outside the domain without permission; existing Workspace protections and administrator controls apply. Wispr provides separate settings governing model improvement and cloud storage, and its privacy information describes cloud transcription. Read the applicable terms and controls in Google Workspace service terms, Wispr’s privacy information, and Wispr’s security information. These descriptions do not replace a review of your organization’s contract, settings, or data-handling policy. If the material is confidential, confirm approval before dictating it into either service.
How to compare dictation quality for your work
There is no controlled side-by-side test here establishing that Gemini or Flow is more accurate, faster, or better with names. Product descriptions are not a substitute for testing your actual setup. To make a useful comparison:
