This page of HotHardware’s April 2023 GeForce RTX 4070 review reports game-by-game performance, not a current buying recommendation. Its results put the RTX 4070 near the RTX 3080 in some 1440p tests, but rankings shift by game and resolution. Tom’s Hardware likewise found RTX 4070 rasterization broadly comparable to RTX 3080 in its test suite, while reporting different leaders in rasterization and demanding ray tracing.
What HotHardware’s game benchmarks show
HotHardware’s comparisons reflect its specific games, settings, hardware, and review-era drivers. They are useful as examples of how performance varied, not as a universal ranking for every game or system.
| Game | HotHardware result |
|---|---|
| Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker | At 1440p, RTX 4070 series cards performed about on par with RTX 3080 and ahead of RTX 3070 Ti. At 4K, RTX 3080 pulled ahead. |
| Assassin’s Creed Valhalla | RTX 4070 cards overtook RTX 3090 in the review’s results. |
| Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy | At both tested resolutions, RTX 4070 cards landed between RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 Ti. |
| Far Cry 6 | HotHardware noted that CPU limitations affected its 1440p results. At 4K, RTX 4070 cards were ahead of RTX 3070 Ti and close to RTX 3080. |
These findings are from HotHardware’s RTX 4070 benchmark page, published April 12, 2023. The CPU caveat in Far Cry 6 matters: when the processor limits a test, a GPU upgrade may not produce the expected difference at that resolution.
How the RTX 4070 compared with other cards
Tom’s Hardware’s April 2023 review characterized RTX 4070 rasterization performance across its suite as broadly equivalent to RTX 3080. That does not mean the cards tie in every game: the HotHardware results above show that the relative order varied by title and resolution.

Tom’s Hardware also found the AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT faster in its rasterization tests, while the RTX 4070 held an advantage in its demanding ray-tracing suite. Those are results from that outlet’s tests, not a universal ordering. Rasterization and ray tracing are different workloads, and the test resolution, game, settings, CPU, patches, and drivers can all affect comparisons. What the F1 22 DLSS 3 test revealed
In HotHardware’s F1 22 test, DLSS in Quality mode raised the minimum frame rate above 60 FPS. The review also reported an unusual Frame Generation result: it behaved properly only in Ultra Performance mode, while other modes returned the same results. The reviewer said they were still investigating. This is a finding from that 2023 test setup, not evidence that Frame Generation generally works only in Ultra Performance mode today.

What the $599 launch price means now
NVIDIA announced a $599 starting price for the RTX 4070 on April 12, 2023. That is historical launch pricing, not a current street price; the announcement does not establish what a particular card costs or is available for now. NVIDIA also said the card ran most modern games at over 100 frames per second at 1440p starting at $599. Treat that as the vendor’s claim, rather than an independent result for every game and configuration. The announcement is available from the NVIDIA Newsroom.

How to use these results when comparing GPUs
- Match the workload. Compare the games and settings you actually use, separating native rasterization from ray tracing and DLSS-enabled results.
- Match the resolution. HotHardware’s Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker and Far Cry 6 results show that relative performance can change between 1440p and 4K.
- Check for system limits. A CPU bottleneck, as HotHardware noted in its 1440p Far Cry 6 test, can obscure differences between graphics cards.
- Read feature tests in context. DLSS and Frame Generation results depend on the specific game and test conditions; the review’s F1 22 observation should not be generalized to current behavior.
- Verify current card details separately. The cited reviews date to April 2023, and the historical launch price does not tell you current pricing, stock, or the specifications of a particular board-partner model.
