The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is a 2021 Ampere graphics card with 8 GB of GDDR6X memory. Launch reviews found it faster than the RTX 3070 in some workloads, but not by a large, consistent margin—and the Ti uses more power. Whether one is worth buying now depends on the specific card’s price, condition, warranty, and how it compares with alternatives available to you.

RTX 3070 Ti specifications and position

NVIDIA’s RTX 3070 Ti uses the Ampere architecture, second-generation RT Cores and third-generation Tensor Cores. It has 8 GB of GDDR6X memory. The RTX 3070 also has 8 GB, but uses GDDR6, so the Ti’s faster memory does not give it more VRAM capacity.

NVIDIA announced the card on May 31, 2021, positioning it as a faster alternative to the previous-generation RTX 2070 SUPER and GTX 1070 Ti. Those comparisons were NVIDIA’s launch claims, not independent benchmark findings. The card launched on June 10, 2021, with UK pricing starting at £529, according to NVIDIA’s announcement.

How much faster is it than the RTX 3070?

There is no single performance uplift that applies to every game. TechSpot’s launch review found the RTX 3070 Ti had 4% more cores than the RTX 3070 and no increase in ROPs. It also noted that both cards had 8 GB of memory, though the Ti used GDDR6X instead of GDDR6. In that review’s launch-price comparison, the Ti’s $599 US MSRP was 20% higher than the RTX 3070’s $499 MSRP. These are historical launch figures, not current asking prices.

Tom’s Hardware’s launch results illustrate how the gap changed by workload: in its 4K ultra raster test suite, the RTX 3070 Ti led the RTX 3070 by 11%, while the RTX 3080 led the Ti by 17%. Those results describe that review’s games, settings and test system; they are not a guarantee of the same margin in another game or PC.

Ray tracing, DLSS, and 8 GB of VRAM

Ray tracing should be assessed separately from conventional rasterized performance. In Tom’s Hardware’s launch test suite, the RTX 3070 Ti was more competitive against AMD’s RX 6800 family in ray tracing than in some raster comparisons. The review also noted that DLSS could affect results in supported games. Neither finding means the Ti leads in every ray-traced title: performance depends on the game, settings, resolution and whether a supported upscaling mode is available.

The card’s 8 GB capacity is shared with the RTX 3070. GDDR6X gives the Ti a different memory type, but does not change that capacity. Whether 8 GB is sufficient depends on the games and graphics settings you use; the launch-review evidence here does not establish a universal VRAM threshold for current games.

Power, connectors, and physical fit

NVIDIA’s reference-card user guide specifies a 750 W system power supply, two PCIe 8-pin power connectors, 10.5 inches of card length and a two-slot width. These are reference-card installation details, not universal dimensions for every partner model. Check the exact card’s specifications, your case clearance and your PSU’s available connectors before buying.

Tom’s Hardware listed a 290 W TDP for the card and measured about 282 W in its Metro testing and 291 W in FurMark. Those are review-specific figures; a particular partner card, game, workload or system may differ. The review also noted that custom partner cards can reach higher clocks and performance along with higher power consumption.

Is the RTX 3070 Ti worth buying?

The $599 US MSRP was the launch price reported in TechSpot’s 2021 review, not evidence of today’s value. A present-day verdict requires comparing the actual listing with alternatives available where you live; a used card’s price, condition, warranty and return coverage can change the calculation.

NVIDIA - GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8GB GDDR6X PCI Express 4.0 Graphics Card - Dark Platinum and Black
  • Seamless functionality
  • Unparalleled performance
  • Packed with features
  • Compact construction

Before deciding, consider:

  • Price and protection: Compare the asking price with available alternatives, and account for the card’s condition, warranty and return terms.
  • Exact board model: Partner cards can differ in dimensions, cooling, clock speeds and power requirements. Use the model number on the listing to confirm its specifications.
  • Your games and resolution: Compare performance in the types of games you play, including whether ray tracing and DLSS support matter to you.
  • Your system: Verify case clearance, PSU capacity and connectors against the particular card, not just the RTX 3070 Ti name.

The launch evidence supports a capable Ampere card with a workload-dependent advantage over the RTX 3070, not a universally large upgrade. It does not establish the card’s current street price, availability or value against newer GPUs, so those must be checked against live listings before purchase.
