In HotHardware’s September 2018 synthetic benchmark results, the GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti led the tested graphics cards in Unigine Superposition, while the RTX 2080 Ti also led in VRMark Blue Room. The figures below describe that review’s test pool and workloads; they are not current GPU rankings or a present-day buying recommendation.
What this benchmark page tests
HotHardware’s Page 4 compares the GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti in two synthetic benchmark tools: Unigine Superposition and Futuremark VRMark. Superposition is powered by the UNIGINE 2 Engine. The review ran its DirectX tests at 1080p Extreme and VR Future, then ran VRMark’s Blue Room at default settings. HotHardware described Blue Room as the most taxing test then offered by VRMark. These are separate workloads with different settings and reported metrics. Their results should be read within each test rather than combined into a single performance score.
Unigine Superposition results
1080p Extreme
HotHardware reported that both RTX cards led the tested field in Superposition 1080p Extreme. In average frame rate, the GTX 1080 Ti trailed the RTX 2080 by about 20%; the RTX 2080 Ti was about 36% faster than Titan Xp. These are approximate comparisons reported by HotHardware for its 2018 test setup, not universal performance gaps across games or systems.
#1 Best Overall
- 11GB GDDR6
- CUDA Cores: 4352
- Display Connectors: DisplayPort, HDMI, USB Type-C
- Maximum Digital Resolution: 7680x4320
VR Future
The RTX cards also led the tested group in Superposition VR Future. HotHardware said Titan Xp fell behind the RTX 2080 by a few percentage points. The report does not establish a precise percentage for this comparison, so it is best understood as a small lead in that specific synthetic workload.
VRMark Blue Room results
In VRMark Blue Room at default settings, HotHardware reported the RTX 2080 Ti at the top of the tested cards. The RTX 2080 cards outpaced Titan Xp by about 10% in the reported VRMark results. That figure is the review’s approximate comparison for this test; it should not be generalized to every VR application or headset configuration.
Rank #2
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11GB
- NVIDIA CUDA Cores 4352, Clock speeds of 1350 MHz core and 1545 MHz boost
- 24/7 U.S. Based Technical Support
- Blower Edition
- NVIDIA Turing Architecture, combined with the all-new GeForce RTX platform, fuses together real-time ray tracing, artificial intelligence, and programmable shading.
How these results fit the 2018 GPU picture
These synthetic tests are not the same as a game benchmark suite. In a separate 2018 review, Tom’s Hardware reported that the RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition averaged about 26% faster than the GTX 1080 Ti across its 13-game 4K suite. That review used NVIDIA driver 411.51 for RTX 2080 Ti results and 398.82 for other NVIDIA cards, so its result belongs to its own test selection and driver conditions—not HotHardware’s Superposition or VRMark runs. Tom’s Hardware’s 2018 RTX 2080 Ti review
The launch context was also specific to 2018. NVIDIA introduced GeForce RTX as its first gaming GPU family based on Turing and the NVIDIA RTX platform, citing RT Cores for real-time ray tracing, Tensor Cores for neural-network processing, and features including Variable Rate Shading. NVIDIA announced worldwide availability beginning September 20, 2018, with launch prices of $999 for RTX 2080 Ti and $699 for RTX 2080; Founders Edition prices were $1,199 and $799, respectively. Those are historical launch prices, not current market prices. NVIDIA’s 2018 GeForce RTX launch announcement

What to take from the comparison
- Across the two Superposition tests, HotHardware placed both RTX cards ahead of the rest of its tested group.
- In Blue Room, the RTX 2080 Ti led the tested cards, while RTX 2080 cards were reported about 10% ahead of Titan Xp.
- The percentage comparisons apply to the named 2018 synthetic tests; they do not predict performance in every game or current software workload.
