Its public abstract names seven providers—not 20. Gartner’s Magic Quadrant evaluates providers on Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision; it is not a list of the 20 largest providers or a market-share ranking.
Which cloud providers are in Gartner’s latest Magic Quadrant?
Gartner’s public abstract for its 2026 Magic Quadrant for Strategic Cloud Platform Services names these seven vendors: Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Google, Huawei Cloud, Microsoft, Oracle, and Tencent Cloud. The public information does not support describing 20 companies as evaluated in this report. Gartner’s full analysis is gated, and the public abstract does not provide enough detail to establish individual vendor placements, scores, strengths, or cautions. See Gartner’s report page for the full evaluation.
Gartner says provider selection is being shaped by AI capabilities, industry solutions, digital sovereignty, operational efficiency, and hybrid and multicloud needs. Those are useful comparison themes, not evidence that any one named provider leads every area.
What Gartner’s Magic Quadrant measures
Gartner describes a Magic Quadrant as a graphical competitive positioning of providers in a specific market. It evaluates them using two criteria: Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision. It is a market-specific framework—not a universal score of cloud quality, a customer-satisfaction measure, or a table of market shares. Gartner explains its Magic Quadrant methodology.

How to compare providers for your organization
There is no single best provider for every workload. Use the dimensions Gartner identifies in its report and companion Critical Capabilities abstract to frame a shortlist, then test each provider against your technical, regulatory, and operating requirements. Gartner’s public abstract does not disclose vendor-level scores for these dimensions.
Architecture and workload fit
- Public, distributed-cloud, and edge architectures: Decide where applications and data must run, including whether they need to operate near users, equipment, or regulated data.
- Hybrid and multicloud: Assess how the platform fits existing infrastructure and whether your organization can manage workloads across environments without unacceptable complexity.
- Modernization and industry solutions: Compare the services and migration paths relevant to your existing applications and sector-specific needs.
Security, sovereignty, and resilience
- Sovereignty and data residency: Confirm that the provider’s available regions, controls, and operating model meet your legal and contractual obligations.
- Security and resiliency: Evaluate the controls, recovery arrangements, and service dependencies required by your risk profile.
- Sustainability: Include sustainability requirements where they affect procurement or infrastructure decisions.
AI and day-to-day operations
- AI/ML and developer capabilities: Match infrastructure, tools, and middleware to the models and applications you plan to build or run.
- Operations management and cloud operations: Consider observability, governance, skills, support, and the work required to operate services consistently.
- Operational efficiency: Compare the complete operating model, not just a service feature or infrastructure price.
These comparison areas come from Gartner’s public abstracts for the Magic Quadrant and its companion Critical Capabilities report, which evaluates product capabilities across seven use cases. The public Critical Capabilities abstract lists the evaluation dimensions.

How the Gartner cloud-provider report differs from market share
Gartner’s separate market-share release reports worldwide IaaS public-cloud services revenue for 2024. It says that market grew 22.5% to $171.8 billion, and that the five largest providers accounted for 82.1% of it. The table below reproduces Gartner’s reported order and shares. These figures describe one service category and one measurement year; they are not the Magic Quadrant’s vendor list or a ranking of all public cloud services.
| 2024 worldwide IaaS public-cloud share | Provider |
|---|---|
| 37.7% | Amazon |
| 23.9% | Microsoft |
| 9.0% | |
| 7.2% | Alibaba Group |
| 4.1% | Huawei |

What the public report can—and cannot—tell you
The public abstract establishes the report’s date, market focus, named vendors, and broad evaluation themes. It does not expose the full vendor-by-vendor analysis. Do not infer a provider’s quadrant, score, or relative strengths from its market share, an announcement by the provider, or its appearance in the abstract. For those details, consult Gartner’s full report.
