If you want a game that investigates a mystery and then turns the evidence into a dramatic confrontation, start with Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE. It is the closest match in this guide for that investigation-to-showdown rhythm, though it does not share Danganronpa’s killing-game premise or Class Trial format. Other picks below suit different parts of the appeal: case-solving, group suspicion, supernatural mysteries, or story-led puzzles.
Which part of Danganronpa do you want more of?
“Games like Danganronpa” can mean very different things. You might be looking for an investigation followed by a trial sequence, a cast of people who may be hiding something, an anime-styled mystery story, or high-stakes puzzles. These recommendations are not all Danganronpa-style class-trial games; choose by the element you want.

- Clues followed by an active confrontation: Start with Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE.
- Case investigation and deduction: Consider Ace Attorney Investigations Collection.
- A different story-led mystery: Look at AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative.
- Group suspicion or supernatural mystery: Consider Gnosia or PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, respectively.
- Dangerous ensemble stories and puzzle-heavy branching narratives: Zero Escape may be worth exploring, but the comparison here is less firmly sourced.
Closest match for investigation followed by a showdown: RAIN CODE
Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE (also sold as RAIN CODE Plus) is the strongest recommendation if the part you miss is gathering evidence and then using it in a dedicated confrontation. The game moves from investigating Kanai Ward and collecting “Solution Keys” into a “Mystery Labyrinth,” where you use clues to overcome traps and challenge a “Mystery Phantom.” The Steam description identifies it as a mystery action game from the minds behind the Danganronpa series, establishing a creative connection as well as that investigation-to-confrontation structure. Steam’s RAIN CODE Plus page describes the game and its gameplay.
That makes RAIN CODE a close match for the rhythm of solving a case and then facing an opponent over the evidence, not a substitute for every part of Danganronpa. The cited description does not establish a killing-game premise or Danganronpa’s Class Trial format.

Platforms and editions
Spike Chunsoft’s catalog lists RAIN CODE Plus for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The catalog lists the Switch release as June 30, 2023, and the other listed platform releases as October 1, 2024. Those are catalog release dates, not a guarantee that a particular edition is currently available in every region or storefront; check your local store listing. Spike Chunsoft’s games catalog lists the platforms and dates.
Other mystery games, grouped by what you want
Nintendo’s mystery-game selections include the following titles alongside RAIN CODE. That establishes them as mystery-adjacent recommendations, not as games that reproduce Danganronpa’s trials. Nintendo’s U.S. selection is dated September 10, 2024, and its Australia roundup is dated January 18, 2024. Nintendo of America’s mystery-game list and Nintendo Australia’s mystery-game list provide the cited selections.

- This latest installment features an all-new storyline built on the foundation of "Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair". The original setting and cast of characters are back, but a single incident leads to an entirely new set of victims, culprits, and tricks.
- The new scenario offers the same volume of content as the original, delivering a complete and immersive experience.
- Also included is the original "Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair" scenario, adapted to modern platforms with updated visuals and refined presentation.
For investigations and evidence: Ace Attorney Investigations Collection
Try Ace Attorney Investigations Collection if you want another mystery-oriented option centered on investigations and deduction. It is a different branch from Danganronpa’s ensemble class trials: the Nintendo listings support it as a mystery pick, but not as a close mechanical match. Check the game’s current regional store page for its platforms and edition details.
For a story-led mystery: AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative
AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative is a Nintendo-listed mystery alternative for readers open to a different investigation structure and tone. The available listing does not establish it as a class-trial game, so treat it as a broader story-led mystery recommendation rather than a Danganronpa equivalent.
Rank #3
- About Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc: Enter Hope's Peak Academy, a prestigious high school reserved for the nation's "ultimate" students. Things take a twisted turn when Monokuma, a maniacal bear, takes them all prisoner in his deadly game of despair
- About Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair: With a brand new cast of Ultimates mysteriously trapped on Jabberwock Island in their own life-or-death game, having fun in the sun with this twisted teddy requires more than just a bit of wit to survive
- About Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony: Set in a "psycho-cool" environment, a new cast of 16 characters find themselves kidnapped and imprisoned in a school. Inside, some will kill, some will die, and some will be punished. Reimagine what you thought high-stake, fast-paced investigation was as you investigate twisted murder cases, and condemn your new friends to death
For group suspicion: Gnosia
Gnosia appears in Nintendo’s mystery selections and may appeal if suspicion within a group is the feature you care about. The cited roundup does not detail its mechanics, so it is best presented as a mystery-genre branch—not a verified match for Danganronpa’s investigation and trial loop.
For supernatural mystery: PARANORMASIGHT
PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo is another Nintendo-listed mystery option, suited to readers drawn to supernatural subject matter. The listing does not establish how its mechanics compare with trials, so choose it for the broader mystery appeal rather than a promised Class Trial substitute.

- In Danganronpa 1, 2, and V3, you and your classmates must participate in a killing game
- the only way to survive is to correctly identify the Killer during the class trial, and be the last one standing!

For ensemble danger and puzzles: Zero Escape
Zero Escape is a more qualified suggestion. Search-result material describes the series as combining visual-novel storytelling with escape puzzles and a high-stakes group premise. That points toward the ensemble danger and twist-heavy narrative some Danganronpa fans want, rather than courtroom-style deduction. This comparison is based on less robust sourcing than the recommendations above, so verify the specific game’s mechanics and current platform availability before buying.

- Want a confrontation built around evidence? Choose RAIN CODE first: its documented flow moves from investigation and Solution Keys to the Mystery Labyrinth and Mystery Phantom.
- Want to solve cases but are open to a different format? Look at Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, while keeping in mind that the cited sources do not establish a Danganronpa-like ensemble trial structure.
- Want mystery storytelling more than a specific trial mechanic? Consider AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative or PARANORMASIGHT, depending on whether you prefer a story-led investigation or supernatural subject matter.
- Want suspicion among a group or high-stakes puzzles? Explore Gnosia or Zero Escape, respectively, but check dedicated game and storefront information for the mechanics and platforms that matter to you.
Before purchasing, confirm the exact game edition, region, and platform on the relevant storefront. Mystery-game roundups are useful for finding adjacent titles, but they are not similarity rankings.
