The Galaxy Buds4 Pro update the Buds3 Pro with a redesigned, slightly lighter body, newer Bluetooth, head gestures and Samsung-claimed audio and ANC refinements. Samsung’s Germany comparison also lists longer battery life for the newer model, though its Colombia comparison gives the two generations the same runtime figures. For Buds3 Pro owners, upgrading is most compelling if one of those changes solves a real need—and if your phone supports the features you want. There is not enough current pricing or independent side-by-side testing here to call it a universal value upgrade.
What changed between the Galaxy Buds4 Pro and Buds3 Pro?
The Buds4 Pro (model SM-R640) arrived in March 2026, following the Buds3 Pro (SM-R630) in July 2024, according to Samsung Electronics’ 2026 Q1 Interim Report. Samsung’s Germany comparison lists changes to the design, battery specifications, Bluetooth version, drivers and controls, alongside features shared across both generations.

Specifications and feature availability can vary by market and device. The figures above are from Samsung Germany’s comparison, last updated in 2026: Samsung Galaxy Buds comparison.
Redesigned shape, but fit is personal
Samsung describes the Buds4 Pro as slimmer, with metal accents and a horizontally opening transparent case. The earbuds measure 30.9 × 18.1 × 19.6 mm, while their case measures 51 × 51 × 28.3 mm. The Buds3 Pro earbuds measure 19.8 × 18.1 × 33.2 mm, and their case measures 48.7 × 58.9 × 24.4 mm. Both are closed in-ear designs and come with silicone tips in three sizes.

The Buds4 Pro are 0.3 g lighter per earbud and their case is 2.2 g lighter in Samsung Germany’s specifications. That does not establish that they fit or feel more comfortable for every person: the shapes differ, and dimensions and weight cannot replace trying them in your own ears. Samsung lists the Buds4 Pro in black and white, plus pink gold exclusive to its German online shop; Buds3 Pro are listed in silver and white. Color availability is market-specific.
Battery capacity and runtime depend on the regional listing
Samsung Germany lists a 61 mAh battery in each Buds4 Pro earbud and a 530 mAh case, compared with 53 mAh and 515 mAh for Buds3 Pro. Its estimated playback figures are:

| Samsung Germany estimate | Buds4 Pro | Buds3 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| ANC on, earbuds / total with case | Up to 6 / 26 hours | Up to 6 / 20 hours |
| ANC off, earbuds / total with case | Up to 7 / 30 hours | Up to 7 / 23 hours |
These are Samsung’s stated estimates, not independent playback measurements. Actual time varies with volume, connectivity and use. There is also a regional discrepancy: Samsung Colombia lists both generations at up to 6 hours per charge and 26 hours total with ANC on, or 7 hours per charge and 30 hours total with ANC off. The reason for the difference between Samsung’s regional pages is not established, so check the specification for your market rather than treating either set of totals as universal.
Samsung Germany lists charging times of up to 55 minutes for Buds4 Pro earbuds and 83 minutes for their case, versus 71 minutes and 87 minutes for Buds3 Pro. Both generations support USB Type-C and wireless charging, which that page describes as Qi2-standard. Samsung lists a USB-C charging cable in the Buds3 Pro package but not the Buds4 Pro package on its Germany page; confirm local box contents before buying.

Samsung’s audio and ANC changes are manufacturer claims
Samsung lists a two-way speaker in both models. The Buds4 Pro have an 11 mm dynamic driver and a 5 × 4 mm tweeter; the Buds3 Pro have a 10.5 mm dynamic driver and a 6.1 mm tweeter. Both have dual amplifiers and three microphones per earbud. Samsung says the Buds4 Pro’s mid-woofer diaphragm is 19.8% larger than the Buds3 Pro’s and describes its Adaptive ANC 2.0 as more responsive.
Those figures describe Samsung’s specifications and claims, not independent proof of how much better the newer earbuds sound or block noise. Samsung lists active noise cancellation, adaptive EQ, adaptive noise control, 360-degree audio, voice and siren detection, and super-wideband speech for both models. The comparison does not establish a measured listening or noise-cancellation advantage for every user.

Head gestures are new; other controls differ
Samsung lists head gestures for the Buds4 Pro and Blade Lights for the Buds3 Pro. The comparison also lists seamless AI access, voice control with Bixby and Google Gemini, and Interpreter for Buds4 Pro; for Buds3 Pro, it lists voice control and Interpreter. Feature support can depend on your device, software, market and language, so a feature listed for the earbuds is not a guarantee that it will work in every setup.

Both models list AAC, SBC, Samsung Seamless Codec and SSC-UHQ. Samsung describes SSC-UHQ as supporting 24-bit/96 kHz on Galaxy smartphones; codec availability and benefit depend on the connected device and software environment. The newer generation changes Bluetooth from 5.4 to 6.1 in Samsung Germany’s specifications, but the codec list itself is unchanged.

On Galaxy devices, Samsung says settings can be integrated directly on One UI 8.0 or later; older One UI versions use the Galaxy Wearable app. Check that your exact phone and software support the specific controls, audio features or AI functions you plan to use.
Should you upgrade from the Galaxy Buds3 Pro?
Consider the Buds4 Pro if a specific change matters to you
- You want to try the redesigned shape or prefer the lower listed weight, while recognizing that comfort is individual.
- You need head gestures or want to try Samsung’s advertised Adaptive ANC 2.0 and audio refinements.
- Your local Samsung listing shows a battery improvement that matters for your listening habits. Samsung’s Germany and Colombia runtime figures differ, so use the relevant market’s specifications.
- You want Bluetooth 6.1 or a feature available on the newer model, and your phone and software support it.
Keep the Buds3 Pro if they already meet your needs
If their fit, sound, ANC and battery life work well for you, the changes may not address a problem worth paying to solve. Samsung lists IP57, two-way speakers, several adaptive audio features and the same four codec categories for both generations. The Buds3 Pro also have Blade Lights, which Samsung does not list for the Buds4 Pro.
Compare prices in the same market before deciding
Samsung US lists the Buds4 Pro from $249.99; that is a US starting price, and prices can change. The available sources do not establish a contemporaneous Buds3 Pro price, so they do not support a precise upgrade premium or a universal value-for-money verdict. Compare the actual checkout prices available to you, then weigh the difference against fit, battery expectations and the features you will use. Samsung US Galaxy Buds4 Pro product page.
