The Fujitsu Toshiba IS12T was identified by Fujitsu as the world’s first smartphone running Windows Phone 7.5, the operating system known by its development codename, Mango. It was a Japanese carrier launch—not a worldwide retail release—and went on sale through KDDI and Okinawa Cellular on August 25, 2011.
What “world’s first Mango phone” means
Fujitsu’s later account described the IS12T as the first smartphone in the world to run Windows Phone 7.5. “Mango” was the software’s development codename; the phone’s official product name used Windows Phone 7.5. That retrospective worldwide-first wording is distinct from the July 2011 launch announcement, in which KDDI called it Japan’s first water- and dust-proof smartphone featuring Windows Phone 7.5. KDDI’s announcement and Fujitsu’s availability notice document the launch, while Fujitsu’s 2013 retrospective supports the worldwide-first description.

When and where it launched
Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications manufactured the IS12T. KDDI and Okinawa Cellular sold it in Japan, and Microsoft Japan supplied Windows Phone 7.5. The initial July 27, 2011 announcement projected availability after September. A later Fujitsu and Fujitsu Toshiba notice updated the schedule: sales began August 25, 2011. The August date is the actual announced start of availability, not a second launch date.

These are the manufacturer and carrier’s 2011 specifications, not measurements of surviving devices. The resistance ratings describe the phone as specified at launch; they do not guarantee that seals on an aged or previously repaired handset still work. The listed CDMA network is likewise a historical specification and does not establish that the phone can connect to a network today.

What Mango added to the phone
Windows Phone 7.5’s launch pitch centered on bringing related information together and making common tasks easier to reach. The People hub aggregated contact, email, and social-network information. The software also advertised viewing and editing Office documents, storing and sharing files through Windows Live SkyDrive, Internet Explorer 9 technology, and entertainment apps. Fujitsu’s Japanese launch material additionally described syncing music from a Windows PC with Zune over a microUSB cable. These were 2011 features and service descriptions; they should not be read as a statement that the services or integrations remain available or supported.

The IS12T is now chiefly relevant as a collectible or retro-device search. For an exact-model search, use “Fujitsu Toshiba IS12T smartphone.” The available launch information does not establish present-day stock, used-device condition, pricing, account setup, unlocking status, or compatibility with current mobile networks, so it is not enough to recommend the phone as an everyday handset.
