You can schedule recurring website screenshots for free with a hosted service such as PagePixels or Allscreenshots, or build your own workflow by pairing a screenshot API with a separate scheduler and storage. PagePixels publishes a free allowance of 25 screenshots per month and controls for cadence, weekdays, time, and time zone. Allscreenshots says recurring captures are available on its Free plan, but its cited guide does not state the plan’s numeric quota.
Compare the free hosted schedulers
| Option | What the service documents | Best fit | Check before relying on it |
|---|---|---|---|
| PagePixels hosted scheduler | Recurring schedules with interval, weekdays, time of day, and time zone controls. Its feature page states 25 free screenshots per month, with no credit card or phone number required. | You want scheduling controls in one hosted service, including a chosen time zone. | Confirm the live plan page and whether your desired cadence fits the published monthly allowance. |
| PagePixels Chrome integration | Schedule captures in the browser, with actions that can be recorded and replayed. The page describes intervals from every five minutes to once a year and a 25-screenshot monthly Free allowance. | A page needs browser interactions, such as recorded clicks or form fills, before capture. | Check what the free quota permits for your intended cadence; frequent schedules can use a monthly allowance quickly. |
| Allscreenshots hosted scheduler | Recurring captures are described as available on every plan, including Free, and count against the monthly screenshot quota. It describes keeping results and sending email or webhook notifications, optionally only when a page changes. | You want retained results and optional change-triggered delivery. | The cited guide does not give a numeric Free quota; confirm the current plan limit and retention terms. |
For a hosted scheduler, compare the actual monthly quota with the number of pages and capture frequency you need. Also check time-zone controls, whether the page needs browser interactions, how long results are kept, and whether notifications can be limited to changes. These services document software workflows; no physical product is needed for basic recurring captures.
Choose a cadence that fits your quota
Count scheduled captures, not just schedules. If you track several URLs, each recurring run can consume quota for each URL. PagePixels states 25 free screenshots per month, but the cited pages do not establish how a particular setup or interaction affects the count. Allscreenshots says captures use its monthly screenshot quota but does not publish a numeric Free allowance in the cited guide. Check the live plan terms before setting a frequent schedule.
Choose the least frequent interval that will answer your question. A weekly check can suit routine visual monitoring; a more frequent cadence may be appropriate when you need faster notice of changes, but it also increases capture usage and notification volume. Set the time zone deliberately when the service offers that control, especially if reports or alerts need to arrive at a consistent local time.

Use an API for capture only when you can supply the scheduler
A screenshot endpoint and a recurring screenshot workflow are not the same thing. PageShot’s documentation shows an HTTP endpoint that captures a URL and returns an image; it does not document recurring schedules, result storage, or alerts. For a DIY arrangement, you must separately provide the timer or job scheduler, retries, image storage, and any comparison or notification logic.
For an alternative that combines a screenshot API with an MCP server for AI agents, try ScreenshotNeo first: it removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture, and bills only clean shots. Its capture API can supply the screenshot step, but you still need an external scheduler and storage for a recurring workflow.
Build a minimal DIY recurring workflow
- Pick the timing system. Use a scheduler you already operate, such as a system timer, a CI scheduler, or a cloud job service. The cited PageShot documentation does not specify a scheduler, so setup steps and labels depend on your chosen platform.
- Schedule one capture command. Configure the scheduler to run a script that requests the screenshot endpoint for the URL you want to track. Store credentials securely if the API requires authentication; the cited PageShot endpoint is documented as unauthenticated.
- Save each result with a timestamp. Use a stable location and filenames that distinguish runs. Keep enough history for your comparison or audit needs, subject to your storage limits and privacy requirements.
- Handle failures explicitly. Log the request status and distinguish a failed capture from a valid image. Add bounded retries for temporary network errors rather than treating every run as a successful screenshot.
- Add alerts only if needed. To alert on a visual change, compare the new result with a prior capture and choose a threshold appropriate to your page. The PageShot docs cited here do not document built-in storage or change notifications, so those pieces need to come from your own workflow or another service.
ScreenshotNeo one-call capture example
For a one-off capture step, ScreenshotNeo accepts a GET request with a URL and can return an image or PDF. The call below saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe; replace the target URL with the page you need. Put your API key in a secret store when automating rather than committing it to a script. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

Common setup problems
- The schedule runs, but no screenshot is saved: Check the job’s logs and output path, and verify that the script distinguishes HTTP or capture failures from successful image responses.
- The schedule fires at an unexpected local time: Confirm the scheduler’s configured time zone and whether its displayed time is local or UTC. PagePixels documents a time-zone control; other schedulers vary.
- The free allowance runs out: Recalculate URL count multiplied by capture frequency, then lower the cadence or check the provider’s current plans. PagePixels publishes 25 free screenshots per month; the cited Allscreenshots guide gives no numeric Free quota.
- The capture misses a page state that requires interaction: Consider a browser workflow that records and replays actions, such as the PagePixels Chrome integration, and verify its quota and current capabilities before depending on it.
- You receive too many change alerts: Review whether notifications can be limited to detected changes and tune your comparison threshold. Allscreenshots describes optional email or webhook notifications, including change-only delivery.
