Fourth Wing is in development as a Prime Video series, but Amazon has not announced a premiere date or cast. The confirmed details so far are the adaptation’s story premise and its creative team, led by showrunner Meredith Averill and pilot director Lisa Joy.
When does the Fourth Wing series come out?
There is no confirmed release date or release window. Amazon says it will add a release timeline as more details become available; its official adaptation announcement does not give a premiere date. That means a specific year or month would be speculation.
A Film & Television Industry Alliance production-directory listing, last updated October 4, 2026, labels the series “In Post-Production” and gives a shoot date of October 2025. That status conflicts with the May 2026 series-order announcement and is not supported by a primary announcement in the sources cited here, so it should not be treated as confirmed production information or used to estimate a release date.
Who is in the Fourth Wing cast?
Amazon’s official page does not list cast members. No actors are confirmed in the official materials cited here, so names circulating as fan casts or rumors should not be mistaken for casting announcements. Teen Vogue likewise reported no casting announcement in its May 12, 2026 overview; that is a dated update rather than a guarantee that no announcement has appeared since.

What is the Fourth Wing series about?
Amazon’s official synopsis says: “Violet Sorrengail is forced by her mother to enter the brutal world of Basgiath War College. Violet joins hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.” This is the series’ published premise, not a guarantee that the show will reproduce every event or detail from the novel.
How the novel sets up Violet’s story
In the source novel, Violet is 20 and expects a life devoted to books and history. Her mother, Basgiath War College’s commanding general, instead requires her to train as a dragon rider. Violet faces a dangerous, competitive environment alongside other candidates, including Xaden Riorson. These details describe the book’s setup; Amazon’s shorter series synopsis does not confirm how much of the novel’s plot the adaptation will use.
The book behind the adaptation
Fourth Wing is the first book in Rebecca Yarros’s ongoing Empyrean series. Amazon says the book is available in print, Kindle, and Audible formats, with availability varying by region. See Amazon’s adaptation page for its source-material information.
Who is making the Prime Video adaptation?
Amazon’s announcement names the following creative team:
Rank #3
- Meredith Averill: adapter, showrunner, and executive producer.
- Lisa Joy: pilot director and executive producer.
- Rebecca Yarros: executive producer.
- Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo: executive producers for Outlier Society.
- Jonathan Nolan and Athena Wickham: executive producers for Kilter Films.
- Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark: executive producers for Premeditated Productions.
Amazon MGM Studios ordered the series at its 2026 Upfront presentation. The order and creative-team details were also reported by TheWrap on May 11, 2026. Peter Friedlander, Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of Global Programming, described the adaptation as a project intended to honor what fans love about the story; that is the studio’s promotional description, not an independent measure of audience response.
