Epic says the setting is temporarily disabled and will return in a future update; its notice gives no date. Arm announced the Fortnite integration on June 3, 2025, but provided no quantified Fortnite performance results.
What Arm ASR does in Fortnite
Arm ASR renders graphics resources at a lower resolution and uses temporal upscaling to reconstruct a higher-resolution image. Temporal methods draw on information across frames to rebuild detail, rather than simply enlarging each frame on its own. Arm describes ASR as derived from AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2; its developer tutorial specifies FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 version 2.2.2 and says the technique is designed to retain fine geometric and texture detail compared with native rendering.
That explains the intended approach, not a measured result in Fortnite. Upscaling can trade some rendering workload for reconstruction work, and the visible result and performance depend on implementation, device, settings, and game version.
Why Fortnite’s Android ASR setting is missing
Epic’s Android support page currently says the Arm ASR graphics setting is temporarily disabled and will be re-enabled in a future update. Epic does not give a return date in that notice. If the option is absent from your Fortnite Android graphics settings, its absence is consistent with Epic’s current notice; the notice does not identify a device-specific fault or provide a troubleshooting step to restore it.

Arm’s June 3, 2025 announcement described Android and iOS support as “coming soon” at the time. That announcement is not a current availability list. Epic’s later support notice is the relevant source for the Android setting’s present status, and neither source establishes that every Android device will support ASR when it returns.
What performance improvement has been demonstrated?
Arm said the Fortnite integration aims to reduce GPU workload while improving frame rates, image sharpness, and battery performance. Those are Arm’s stated benefits, not quantified Fortnite test results. The cited announcement supplies no FPS increase, battery-life figure, device-by-device measurements, or controlled comparison against another upscaler. It therefore does not support a claim that ASR will deliver a particular performance boost—or that every phone will run better with it enabled.

Peter Hodges, Arm’s Director of Developer Ecosystem Strategy, characterized it this way in Arm’s June 3, 2025 article: “Arm ASR is an open-source upscaling technology developed to improve mobile gaming performance without compromising visual quality.” This is Arm’s description of the technology, not an independent comparative test.
Fortnite’s integration and Arm’s developer tools
Arm said Epic was integrating ASR through a dedicated Unreal Engine 5 plug-in for Fortnite mobile. Arm’s developer hub lists its Unreal Engine plug-in for Unreal Engine 5.3, 5.4, and 5.5; its tutorial also recommends those versions and explains installation and configuration. Those are developer resources, not a compatibility list for Fortnite players’ phones. The developer hub described a Unity plug-in as coming soon, which likewise does not establish Fortnite player availability.

How to judge ASR if it returns
When Epic restores the option, compare it on your own supported device rather than assuming the result from the feature name. Look at these factors during comparable gameplay:
- Image quality: Check fine textures, edges, motion, and whether the reconstructed image looks sharper or shows distracting artifacts.
- Frame rate: Compare stability in the same game mode and graphics conditions, rather than relying on a peak reading.
- GPU workload and battery behavior: Note heat, power use, and play time under similar conditions; Arm’s announcement does not quantify these outcomes for Fortnite.
- Availability: Confirm that the setting actually appears for your device and game version. A developer plug-in listing does not prove player-side support.
The cited sources contain no controlled head-to-head results against other upscalers, so they do not establish a winner on image quality, speed, or battery life.
