The legitimate free way to earn V-Bucks in Fortnite Battle Royale is to progress through the current season’s Free Pass or Battle Pass. Free-to-play Save the World does not offer V-Bucks to every player: its free players earn X-Ray Tickets, while V-Bucks gameplay rewards remain available to eligible legacy Founders.
Earn V-Bucks through the Battle Royale passes
Epic lists progression through the Free Pass and Battle Pass as a way to earn V-Bucks. Each season includes access to a Free Pass, while the Battle Pass is a separate purchase. Check the pass currently shown in Fortnite for its rewards: the available content changes by season, and Epic’s support information does not establish a guaranteed amount that applies to every season.

To pursue the free route, play Battle Royale and progress through the current Free Pass. Review its reward track in-game so you can see which V-Bucks rewards are available and what progress is required. Buying the Battle Pass is optional; it is not necessary to access the Free Pass.
Does Save the World give free players V-Bucks?
No. Save the World became free-to-play on April 16, 2026, but free access does not mean free V-Bucks. Epic says free players earn X-Ray Tickets for the Save the World shop instead.

Who can still earn V-Bucks in Save the World?
Epic says players who purchased Save the World before June 29, 2020, as Founders retain specified V-Bucks rewards through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, Storm Shield Defense missions, and Challenges. These rewards are limited to Founders; downloading the free-to-play version does not make a new player eligible.

Epic also lists direct V-Bucks purchases as an option. Purchases are not free earning methods, and offers can vary. Epic identifies the in-game V-Bucks store, Epic Games Store, Fortnite Item Shop on fortnite.com, and official cards from authorized retailers as purchase channels. It says it does not partner with third-party V-Bucks sellers.

How to avoid free-V-Bucks scams
Epic Games Player Support warns: “Don’t trust any suspicious offers for Epic Games products like free titles or V-Bucks on external sites. Any real offers will be displayed in the Epic Games Store or on the official Epic Games websites or social media channels.” Treat a site, video, message, or giveaway promising a V-Bucks generator as suspicious unless the offer is announced through those official channels.
- Do not enter your Epic account password on a generator or unofficial offer site.
- Do not give a third-party bot account permissions. Epic warns that Discord or Telegram bots with account access can act on the account and spend V-Bucks.
- Do not buy cards from unofficial sellers. Epic warns that an unofficial listing may take your money without delivering currency or expose account details.
- For purchases, use Epic’s official channels or a V-Bucks card from an authorized retailer.
Will V-Bucks transfer between platforms?
Epic says V-Bucks earned through Fortnite Passes, Quest Packs, or Save the World are shared across platforms. Purchased V-Bucks follow platform-specific rules: V-Bucks bought on Nintendo Switch are not shared with other platforms and cannot be used in the Fortnite Web Shop. Epic also documents a Korea-specific exception for PC purchases, so check its current platform guidance if that applies to your account. Epic says items bought with V-Bucks are available on platforms where you play Fortnite.
