Sidekicks and Back Bling are separate Fortnite cosmetic types. Back Bling is worn on a character’s back; a Sidekick is a companion that stays near the player and reacts to the world. Epic says Sidekicks do not provide gameplay advantages and do not take damage. Their support across Fortnite experiences also differs, so owning one does not mean it will appear in every mode.

What a Sidekick does
A Sidekick accompanies the player rather than being worn as part of the character’s outfit. Epic says Sidekicks react to the world and can be interacted with using Sidekick Emotes. How Sidekick customization works
To customize an eligible Sidekick, open the Locker after obtaining it. Customization is available once for each eligible Sidekick: review the appearance, then lock it in. The selected appearance is permanent. Not every Sidekick can be customized. Epic says names and accessories can be changed; players may also purchase a Sidekick more than once and choose different appearances, but each owned customization must be unique. Where each cosmetic works
Epic’s compatibility chart gives Sidekicks and Back Bling separate entries. According to that chart, Back Bling is supported in Battle Royale, Save the World, Festival, and developer-made experiences, but not LEGO Fortnite Odyssey or Rocket Racing. Epic announced on June 5, 2026, that creators could use Sidekicks as scriptable NPCs in Unreal Editor for Fortnite. The announcement described configuring them through the NPC Spawner, including Sidekick-specific behavior and appearance options, and using Cosmetic Sync so an NPC can take the form of a player’s owned Sidekick. Not as a general rule. Epic’s October 30, 2025 launch announcement said owners of the Bonesy Back Bling would be granted the Bonesy Sidekick on November 7, 2025. That was a specific launch-era entitlement, not a stated rule for other Back Bling items. The same announcement described Peels as becoming available through the next Battle Pass on November 1, 2025, and Bonesy, Spike, and Lil’ Raptor as arriving in the Shop on November 7.
