The FLIR ONE is a phone-connected thermal camera for inspecting surface temperature patterns—not a sensor that sees through walls or a universal precision thermometer. Before buying, match the exact FLIR ONE connector variant to your phone, then check whether its resolution, measurement tools, and roughly one-hour stated battery life suit your work.
What the FLIR ONE phone attachment does
FLIR describes FLIR ONE, formerly called FLIR ONE Gen 3, as a thermal-imaging camera attachment for smartphones. It connects directly to a phone and is intended for tasks such as building diagnostics, electrical inspection, asset reliability, and leak detection. FLIR specifically describes checking electrical panels, HVAC problems, and water damage. These are inspection aids: a thermal pattern can point to an area worth investigating, but it does not by itself establish the cause of a problem. FLIR product details
Check phone and connector compatibility first
FLIR lists three configurations: Android USB-C, iOS Lightning, and iOS USB-C. Choose the variant for your phone’s actual operating system and connector; the word “USB-C” alone is not enough to distinguish the Android and iOS models. FLIR’s product page advises: “Please check your phone model and connector type before purchase.” Use its current compatibility checker to confirm the specific phone.
The adjustable OneFit connector extends up to 4 mm, and FLIR says it fits many popular protective cases. That is not a guarantee for every case or phone combination, so confirm fit before relying on a case being compatible. Check FLIR ONE compatibility and variants

FLIR ONE specifications
The following are specifications on Teledyne FLIR’s undated product page, accessed in 2026; they are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. FLIR also lists saved images at 1440 × 1080 pixels, which should not be confused with the camera’s native thermal resolution.
| Specification | FLIR-listed value |
|---|---|
| Native thermal resolution | 80 × 60 |
| Super-resolution thermal output | 240 × 180 |
| Battery life | Approximately 1 hour |
| Charging time | 40 minutes |
| Object temperature range | −20°C to 120°C (−4°F to 248°F) |
| Typical accuracy | ±3°C or ±5%, under FLIR’s stated conditions: 60 seconds after startup, device temperature 15°C–35°C, and scene temperature 5°C–120°C |
| Measurement tool | One centered spot meter |
| Focus | Fixed, from 15 cm to infinity |
| Frame rate | 8.7 Hz |
All values in the table are from Teledyne FLIR’s product page. Actual runtime and measurement performance can vary; the listed accuracy is conditional, not a promise that every reading will fall within that tolerance.

How MSX and VividIR affect the image
FLIR’s MSX feature adds detail from the onboard visible-light camera to a thermal image. This can make edges and scene features easier to recognize, but the visible detail is not additional thermal resolution. VividIR combines multiple image frames to improve detail and reduce blur; FLIR describes upscaling up to 3×. Neither feature changes what a temperature measurement means or removes the need to interpret the thermal pattern correctly. FLIR’s description of MSX and VividIR
What temperature readings can—and cannot—tell you
A thermal camera measures an object’s surface temperature. It does not directly measure the temperature inside a wall, pipe, or electrical component, and it does not see through walls. A surface pattern may help locate a possible issue, but you may need another inspection method to determine what is behind it or what caused it.

FLIR’s manual says measurement accuracy depends on factors including distance, ambient temperature, and the material’s emissivity. Reflective, insulated, or otherwise difficult surfaces can therefore make readings harder to interpret. Treat the image as an inspection clue, especially when the surface properties or viewing conditions are uncertain. FLIR manual: measurement considerations

FLIR says the FLIR ONE app includes guides for air leaks, insulation gaps, moisture buildup, and vehicle features such as seats, disc brakes, defoggers, and defrosters. The manual describes capturing still images or video and saving or sharing media. On the standard FLIR ONE, the manual’s feature comparison lists one measurement spot; it lists three for Pro and Pro LT. App features and screens can change with updates, so check the current app listing and documentation for your phone.

FLIR ONE versus FLIR Edge and older models
FLIR’s series page distinguishes direct-to-phone legacy FLIR ONE models from FLIR Edge, which connects wirelessly. The wireless design is worth considering if you need to inspect a difficult-to-reach or out-of-view area without holding your phone at the target. The available manufacturer information establishes a workflow difference, not a universal performance ranking. Compare the exact supported phone, connectivity, resolution, measurement tools, battery, and app workflow for the model you are considering. FLIR ONE series · FLIR Edge
Do not confuse older listings with the current FLIR ONE product. FLIR marks FLIR ONE Pro LT as discontinued and recommends FLIR ONE Pro as its replacement; Pro LT specifications are not specifications for FLIR ONE Gen 3. FLIR ONE Pro LT product status

Who should consider the FLIR ONE?
- Potential fit: someone who wants a compact, direct-connected thermal camera for locating surface-temperature patterns during home, HVAC, electrical, vehicle, or maintenance inspections.
- Check carefully: anyone needing readings close to a specified tolerance, because FLIR’s accuracy figure applies only under stated conditions and surface properties affect measurement.
- Consider a wireless option: if your inspection often requires viewing an awkward or out-of-view target while keeping the phone elsewhere, compare FLIR Edge’s wireless workflow.
- Do not buy until confirmed: if you have not verified the exact phone model, connector, and case fit using FLIR’s compatibility information.
