First find out which audio is late: OBS monitoring, a local recording of the program output, or the YouTube replay. A delay heard only through monitoring does not prove that viewers hear it. If the recording or replay is out of sync, test the same local file in OBS Media Source; for an ordered playlist, check VLC Video and its playlist settings. Reports of VLC timing problems describe particular systems and versions—not a universal defect or a guaranteed fix.
Identify where the delay occurs
Before changing settings, note your operating system, OBS version, source type, whether the media is local or network-based, and the signal in which you hear the delay. A monitor can lag while the program output remains in sync, so listening to the monitor alone is not a reliable test of what viewers receive.
- Make a short local recording. Play the same segment and compare its audio and video timing. This checks the recorded program output independently of your monitor.
- Check the YouTube replay. If the recording is in sync but the replay is not, the issue may be elsewhere in the streaming path; do not assume the playlist source is responsible.
- Compare the monitor. If only monitoring sounds late while the recording and replay are in sync, changing playlist playback settings may not address the symptom.
OBS issue reports illustrate why the distinction matters: one Windows user reported delayed VLC Video output compared with monitor output, while a macOS user described lagging monitor controls despite stream, mixer and recording updates appearing immediate. These are individual reports, not controlled tests or proof of a current, widespread problem.
Choose the OBS source that fits your loop
| Source | Best fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Media Source | A single supported media file | Check the Loop property to repeat playback when the file ends. OBS documents support for audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV, along with several video formats. |
| VLC Video | An ordered playlist of multiple files | VLC must be installed. Use 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS. Check playlist order, Loop Playlist, Shuffle Playlist and Visibility Behaviour. |
OBS’s Media Sources guide lists Loop Playlist as on by default and Shuffle Playlist as off. It also documents a default visibility behavior of stopping when the source is not visible and restarting when visible, 400 ms network caching and audio track 1. These defaults describe configuration, not fixes for every delay. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If your loop contains one supported local file, try that file in Media Source as a diagnostic comparison. This is not a replacement for a multi-file playlist; compare the same segment and inspect the resulting recording to see whether the output timing changes.
Check playlist behavior and playback conditions
- Confirm that the playlist contains the intended files in the intended order, and that the source is set to loop rather than shuffle if you need a fixed sequence.
- Check whether the source becomes hidden during scene changes. The documented visibility behavior can stop and restart playback when the source is not visible; account for this if your loop spans scenes.
- If files are network streams rather than local media, note that distinction when diagnosing. OBS documents 400 ms network caching as a default for VLC Video, but changing a documented default is not a proven universal audio-sync remedy.
- Confirm VLC’s architecture matches OBS. OBS documents that VLC Video requires VLC to be installed and that 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC.
Interpret reports without assuming your setup matches
A Windows 11 user running OBS 30.1.2 reported that VLC Video Source output was “nearly 3 seconds” behind the same source’s monitor output, and said the same local music file had no delay in standard Media Source. That figure is one issue author’s report, not an independently reproduced measurement or a general VLC delay: OBS Studio issue 10448.

A macOS 13 user on OBS 29.1.3 reported that local monitor controls lagged after playlist playback while stream, mixer levels and recordings updated immediately: OBS Studio issue 9156. An older Windows 10 report involving OBS 25.0.8 and 26.0.0-rc1 describes mixed audio/video playlist transition and monitoring anomalies; it is historical evidence for that setup, not a current general diagnosis: OBS Studio issue 3182.
These reports are user-submitted observations. They do not establish how often the problem occurs, whether it reproduces in current versions, or which setting fixes a particular system. The sources address OBS playback, not Malayalam language encoding or metadata; there is no evidence here that Malayalam speech or text itself causes playback delay.

Troubleshoot dropped frames separately
If OBS shows increasing dropped frames or a yellow or red connection indicator, investigate the connection and bitrate path to YouTube separately from the audio-sync test. OBS says these indicators can mean the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the selected bitrate; by themselves, they do not prove an audio-sync cause. Follow the OBS guidance on dropped frames and connection issues.

If the goal is a continuous YouTube loop rather than troubleshooting a local OBS setup, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, then go live. No computer or home connection has to stay on. The stream plays uploaded video—it is not a camera stream—and the service streams to YouTube.
