Fitbit’s update history lists firmware version 220.21 for both the Sense 2 and Versa 4, but describes it only as “bug fixes and improvements.” It does not identify specific new features for that release. The detailed feature list often associated with these watches belongs to the earlier 210.26 update—not 220.21—and the available evidence does not confirm a new September 2026 rollout.

What the latest listed update adds

Fitbit’s official device-update history lists version 220.21 for both Sense 2 and Versa 4. Its note says only, “This release includes bug fixes and improvements.” Fitbit does not specify which bugs were fixed or name any new feature for these models in that entry.

That distinction matters if you have seen a headline promising new features: the official notes do not support attributing a particular feature to 220.21. They also do not confirm a fresh September 2026 rollout. They establish what Fitbit lists in its update history, not when a particular watch will receive an update.

Which features belong to earlier updates?

Version 210.26

Fitbit’s update history gives the more detailed feature list for version 210.26. It includes YouTube Music controls, screen magnification, clarified heart-rate zone names, improved exercise heart-rate tracking, recognition of elliptical, rowing and spinning workouts, and improved switching between onboard and connected GPS. These are changes documented for 210.26, not confirmed features of 220.21.

Version 214.24

The official history says version 214.24 added status indicators. That change, too, is separate from the generic 220.21 entry.

Why another owner may get an update first

Fitbit updates can be distributed in stages. In an August 19, 2025, Fitbit Community reply, a moderator said version 220.21 was rolling out in stages; a community product expert advised waiting for an update notification in the Fitbit app. This is dated rollout guidance, not confirmation of the watches’ status in 2026.

A Sense 2 owner later reported in a December 2025 community discussion that an update appeared on December 1 and showed 220.31 after installation on December 4. That is one user’s report, and the version label differs from the 220.21 entry in Fitbit’s official history; it does not establish a general release or current rollout schedule.

How to check for an update

  1. Open the Fitbit app paired with your Sense 2 or Versa 4 and look for an update notification. The cited community guidance says to wait for that notification rather than trying to force an update.
  2. Check the version shown after installation and compare it with Fitbit’s official update history. A version label reported by another owner is not proof that the same release is available for your watch.

The cited instruction comes from a 2025 community discussion, so it should be treated as dated support guidance. The sources do not provide a current completion date, region-by-region schedule, or a verified way to make either watch receive the update sooner.

Does the update change the difference between Sense 2 and Versa 4?

No model-specific feature change is identified in the 220.21 notes. The watches’ product positioning is separate from this firmware entry: Fitbit presented Versa 4 as fitness-focused, while Sense 2 adds continuous electrodermal activity (cEDA) sensing for all-day stress-management tracking. These are manufacturer descriptions from the products’ 2022 launch, not independent evidence of health outcomes. Fitbit says the stress feature is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, mitigate or manage disease.

Fitbit also advertised more than 40 exercise modes and more than six days of battery life for the watches at launch. Those are 2022 manufacturer claims, not fresh independent test results or a guarantee of current battery performance. For the original descriptions, see Fitbit’s Sense 2 and Versa 4 announcement.

Replacement bands and accessories

If you are looking for a replacement band rather than a firmware feature, Fitbit’s accessory guide identifies accessories for its newer watches, including Sense 2 and Versa 4. Check the exact model compatibility on any third-party listing before buying; a band that fits one watch should not be assumed to fit the other.
