If Night City has run its course, start with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered: it is the closest PS5 follow-up for players who want CD Projekt Red’s quest writing and consequential choices, even though its world is fantasy rather than cyberpunk. If what you miss is chrome and neon, pick Ghostrunner 2 or The Ascent; if it is the scale of a long RPG, try Elden Ring or Baldur’s Gate 3. Before buying anything, check whether you have played Phantom Liberty and Cyberpunk 2077’s October 2026 update.

Should you finish Cyberpunk 2077 before moving on?
Check for unfinished Night City content first: there may be a substantial expansion or fresh quests waiting, rather than a need to find a substitute. Phantom Liberty adds a spy-thriller campaign in Dogtown, new gear, and a story involving secret agent Solomon Reed. It is sold separately or included in Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for PS5.
Cyberpunk 2077 is also still receiving updates. CD Projekt Red released the free Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) on PS5 on 22 October 2026. The company’s patch notes include two side quests, new gear and clothing, a new radio station, hand-cyberware customization, dual-wielding for Power pistols and revolvers, console FOV control, and cross-platform mod support through mod.io. On PS5 and PS5 Pro, saves with mods have trophies disabled. CD Projekt Red’s update announcement is newer than the PlayStation marketing page, which still calls out update 2.31; for what recently shipped, the developer’s 2.5 notes are the relevant reference.
What the new quests require
- Clampdown: available after The Heist and two Wakako gigs; it must be completed before the Edgerunners 2 quest.
- Welcome to Paradise: unlocks after The Heist when V has Street Cred 15.
- Other additions: 12 Minor Arcana tarot cards, a five-piece King gear set, HKGN 102.0 FM, and clothing collections. Hand-cyberware customization is available through five Glamdocs.
These are free-game additions, not a second story expansion on the scale of Phantom Liberty. The story expansion remains the key paid add-on; Update 2.5 adds side content and systems. Project Orion, the planned sequel, is not a 2026 release, so it is not a practical next game to install now.

Does your Cyberpunk version support the expansion?
PlayStation says the PS4 base game received its last patch on 8 November 2022 and is no longer supported. A PS5 is required to download later patches and to buy and play Phantom Liberty. If you own the PS4 version, check the PS5 edition and upgrade details on your PlayStation account before assuming the expansion is available to you.
Is a replay worth the time?
Sony says one Cyberpunk storyline takes “between 20 and 30 hours” on average, while multiple endings and optional discoveries can stretch play to hundreds of hours. That is one storyline, not a guaranteed completion time for every player. A new life path—Corpo, Nomad, or Streetkid—can offer another way through V’s story, but it is a deliberate replay rather than a small postgame task.
Which game is closest if you loved Cyberpunk’s writing?
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is the most direct recommendation for quest craft, moral complications, and a world that rewards wandering. It trades Night City’s neon and first-person builds for a fantasy setting, so the connection is the studio’s approach to authored quests, not the surface look or combat.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered
Sony says the PS5 remaster became a free upgrade for existing PS5 owners from 29 September 2026, replacing the previous version. The Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions are included at no extra cost; Sony describes them as over 10 hours and over 30 hours of adventure respectively. A third add-on, Songs of the Past, is paid DLC planned for 2027, so it is not part of the currently available content.
For shopping searches, the physical or digital listing may appear as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition. Check that the listing is the PS5 edition or explicitly identifies the PS5 upgrade path; an old listing name does not by itself tell you what entitlement is attached to your account. On PS5 Pro, Sony says Quality Mode with ray tracing runs at 60 FPS.
The Blood of Dawnwalker
If you want a new dark-fantasy RPG rather than a return to Geralt’s world, The Blood of Dawnwalker launched on 3 September 2026. Rebel Wolves is led by former Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, and the game’s day-and-night premise puts a human-versus-vampire tension into a story with a 30-day narrative clock. That makes it a notable 2026 candidate for players following former CD Projekt Red talent, but it is not a CD Projekt Red game or a fantasy reskin of Cyberpunk.
Metacritic coverage reported an approximate score range of 83–84 in 2026. Treat that as a snapshot of critic reviews, not a guarantee that its writing, pacing, or choices will match your preferences. Choose it for the gothic story setup and time pressure, not because it reproduces Night City’s first-person combat or urban density.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a grounded, first-person historical RPG released on 4 February 2025. There is no magic or chrome: its appeal is a large authored world and role-playing in a very different setting. OpenCritic figures cited by GameRant in 2026 were 89/100 for Top Critic Avg and 95% Critics Rec. Those figures describe aggregated critic reception, not how long the game will take you or how closely it resembles Cyberpunk.
GameRant described it as offering over 100 hours of deep RPG content, but that is an editorial characterization rather than a standardized playtime estimate. Choose it if your Cyberpunk hangover is really a desire for a substantial first-person RPG with a strong sense of place; skip it if the essential ingredient is futuristic technology.
What should you play if the neon, chrome, or city is what you miss?
For a cyberpunk look, the closest alternatives split sharply by camera and activity. Ghostrunner 2 is a fast first-person action game, while The Ascent turns corporate dystopia into isometric shooting. Cloudpunk is for atmosphere and driving, not combat; Watch Dogs: Legion is the better fit for hacking and city systems.
Ghostrunner 2: first-person katana action
Released for PS5 on 26 October 2023, Ghostrunner 2 puts a cyber-ninja in a post-apocalyptic future. Sony’s description sets the story inside Dharma Tower, humanity’s last refuge, where a violent AI cult has risen after the Keymaster’s fall. Its one-hit-kill combat and motorbike sections suit players who liked the fantasy of a Sandevistan-powered katana build more than Cyberpunk’s dialogue-heavy role-playing. The trade-off is clear: it is an action game built around movement and combat, not an open-world choice RPG.

Sony lists a $19.99 Season Pass. That is a separate add-on price, not the price of the base game, and it was the listed figure in the 2026 PlayStation page snapshot. The game also has Deluxe and Brutal editions; compare their current contents and prices on the store before paying for an edition upgrade.
The Ascent: corporate collapse from above
The Ascent is a PS5 cyberpunk action RPG with an isometric camera. Its corporate-collapse premise and indentured-worker perspective echo the genre’s class divide, while holographic advertising and dense urban layers offer a different angle on the city aesthetic. It is a good fit for gunfights and dystopian scenery if you are comfortable leaving Cyberpunk’s first-person view behind. It does not provide the same first-person build feel or CD Projekt Red-style branching quest structure.
Watch Dogs: Legion: hacking a near-future London
Watch Dogs: Legion released on PS4 and PS5 on 12 November 2020. It is the most natural choice here for a player who enjoyed the netrunner fantasy: the setting is a surveilled near-future London, and the core hook is recruiting different people into your resistance. The emphasis is on city-scale hacking and recruiting rather than cyberware progression or Cyberpunk’s personal story around V.

It is a PS4/PS5 title, not PS5-exclusive. Check the store listing or your library version before buying again; Sony’s listing describes the PS5 digital version as included with the PS4 edition. That compatibility detail can matter more than the game’s age if you already own it.

Cloudpunk focuses on delivery work in a vertical, rainy city, with a hover-car and a debt-driven premise. It is the right pick when what you miss is cruising through a layered neon metropolis and soaking up its atmosphere. It has no combat, so do not choose it as a replacement for Cyberpunk’s gunplay, character builds, or action missions.
Observer: System Redux: cyberpunk as identity horror
Observer: System Redux is a PS5 neural-detective horror game built around identity, technology, and the question of how much of a person can be replaced. Its concerns may resonate with Johnny Silverhand’s presence in V’s life, but it approaches them through investigation and horror rather than an open-world RPG. Pick it for unsettling atmosphere and a technological mystery, not for a sprawling city to explore.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided: augmentations and stealth choices
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is a 2016 PS4 game that can be played on PS5 through backward compatibility; it is not a native PS5 release. Its Prague setting, augmentations, stealth-RPG play, and corporate conspiracy make it the closest recommendation for readers who want to plan around chrome and infiltration. Its age and PS4 status are worth weighing before purchase, but for this specific mix of augmentation and conspiracy it remains a focused alternative.
Other cyberpunk and sci-fi options
- Ghostwire: Tokyo: a dense city-exploration pick with possession and urban legends. Its supernatural threat makes it a tonal departure from corporate science fiction.
- Atomic Heart: a PS5 retro-future shooter for players who prioritize distinctive style and combat over RPG depth. A third-party Amazon listing showed $35.34 on 28 October 2026 at 4:28 a.m. UTC; store prices can change, so verify the live price before buying.
- System Shock (2023 remake): a PS5 option for players seeking a demanding immersive-sim experience rather than an open-world successor.
What if you want another huge RPG rather than another cyberpunk game?
If you miss the scale, exploration, or role-playing rather than the neon, widen the search beyond cyberpunk. These games differ substantially in camera, tone, and combat, so the best choice depends on what made the long Night City stay satisfying.
Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree
Elden Ring is an open-world action RPG on PS4 and PS5, released on 25 February 2022. PlayStation’s editorial description emphasizes challenging but rewarding boss battles, fantastical world design, and tightly controlled combat. It is a strong choice for exploration and discovery, but it has much less conversational questing than Cyberpunk and asks for more from players who do not enjoy difficult fights.
Shadow of the Erdtree is a separate add-on; Sony’s 2026 PlayStation page lists it at $39.99, while a September 2026 listing cited a $59.99 price for the base game. Those are dated listing figures, not a promise of today’s checkout price. Check whether you want the base game, the expansion, or a bundle before comparing prices.

Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the better pick if the part you want back is a reactive story and party-based decision-making. It is a fantasy RPG rather than a first-person action game, so its combat and perspective differ from Cyberpunk. PlatPrices described it as having highly reactive storytelling and rich party systems; those strengths make it a useful alternative for choice-focused players, even without Night City’s chrome or city traversal.
Horizon Forbidden West and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Horizon Forbidden West offers accessible action-RPG play and is rated Teen, unlike most of the games in this set that carry a more mature tone. Its world and combat offer a change of pace rather than a cyberpunk substitute. The Burning Shores expansion is the PS5-exclusive continuation, so check the edition and platform if you are browsing listings.

It can suit someone who wants another authored, story-forward adventure with an urban starting point, but its setting, combat, and series continuity are its own. A third game, Revelation, was described by GameRant as planned for early 2027; it is upcoming, not a current PS5 option.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Ghost of Tsushima
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a strong PS5 choice for dense-city traversal: moving through a city is central, but it is an action-adventure rather than a role-playing game. Choose it for momentum and city movement, not branching builds or dialogue-driven quests.
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and Ghost of Yōtei offer authored exploration and combat in historical settings. They can scratch the open-world adventure itch, but neither recreates Cyberpunk’s RPG systems or futuristic city. Ghost of Yōtei was ranked fourth in Common Sense Gamer’s PS5 open-world list on 8 October 2026; that ranking is one publication’s ordering, not a platform-wide verdict.
Nioh 3, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Crimson Desert
Nioh 3, released 6 February 2026, is the combat-first option: it combines open-field exploration with action-RPG fighting rather than Cyberpunk’s first-person gun builds. Metacritic’s 2026 snapshot reported 86 from more than 100 critic reviews, with 94% of scored reviews positive. One GameRant writer reported 51 hours for a mostly complete campaign; that is one writer’s playthrough, not a standardized completion estimate.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is worth considering for pawn AI and unpredictable fights, especially if you want a fantasy world where encounters can get chaotic. Crimson Desert is better approached as a sandbox than as a CD Projekt Red-style narrative RPG: its 2026 Metacritic snapshot was 77, while its user score was 8.8 from more than 13,000 ratings. Scores and player ratings can change as more reviews and votes arrive.

Free-to-play and other open-world alternatives
Where Winds Meet launched globally on 14 November 2025 and is a free-to-play wuxia game. Its martial-arts setting is a substantial shift from cyberpunk, and its live-service, gacha-adjacent structure means it is not a straightforward one-time-purchase RPG substitute. GameRant rated it 7/10. If that monetization model is not appealing, it may be a poor fit regardless of its open-world draw.
Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War Ragnarök, and Death Stranding Director’s Cut or Death Stranding 2: On the Beach are further choices when tone, authored worlds, or a distinctive journey matter more than chrome. They are not close mechanical replacements, so choose them for the particular kind of atmosphere or narrative experience you want next.

Cyberpunk’s appeal is a combination of things, and no single PS5 game copies all of them. Use the part you want back—not a vague “similar game” label—to make the choice.

Which games are native PS5 releases?
Most of the recommendations above have PS5 versions, but backward compatibility is not the same as a native PS5 edition. The distinction matters for edition selection, feature support, and whether an older game may already be in your library.
- PS5 or PS5-enhanced options: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Ghostrunner 2, The Ascent, Cloudpunk, Observer: System Redux, Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
- PS4/PS5 release: Watch Dogs: Legion is listed for both generations.
- PS4 playable on PS5: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is a PS4 game that runs through backward compatibility; it is not a native PS5 release.
Do not treat every popular “games like Cyberpunk” list as a PS5 shopping list. Starfield and Fallout: New Vegas are not PS5 games, and Shadowrun: Dragonfall is listed for PC and Switch. VA-11 HALL-A is listed for PC, PS4, and Switch, not PS5; it should not be presented as a PS5 title without clearly explaining the PS4 backward-compatibility distinction. By contrast, Fallout 4 is available on PS5 if you want a Bethesda-style open-world RPG, though it is a weaker match for Cyberpunk’s writing.
