Final Fantasy VII Revelation is being planned as a multiplatform launch rather than another PlayStation-first release, according to reporting on an interview with director Naoki Hamaguchi. He called the shift “an inevitable outcome of the changing environment surrounding today’s players.” That is his view of the industry’s direction, not proof that every major game must launch on multiple platforms.
Why Hamaguchi says the multiplatform shift was inevitable
In an interview identified as appearing in Edge issue #429, Hamaguchi said players are no longer tied to one piece of hardware. The reporting describes audiences playing across televisions, desktop computers and handheld devices. His argument is that large-budget development should prioritize how widely a game’s core experience can be delivered, rather than focusing only on the highest-performance environment.
“I believe that what will be important in future triple-A game development is not how high-performance an environment we can use,” Hamaguchi said, “but rather how widely we can deliver the core of the same experience across different environments.” GamesRadar reported the comments on October 5, 2026, and identified Hamaguchi as the game’s director. The original Edge issue was not directly reviewed, so the quotation and attribution here follow that report. GamesRadar’s report
How Revelation’s launch plan differs from the earlier remakes
GamesRadar describes Revelation as the first entry in the remake trilogy planned for a simultaneous multiplatform launch. It contrasts that approach with Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which it says debuted as PlayStation exclusives before arriving on other platforms later.

A separate PlayStation Universe report lists PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S among the planned platforms. That is a secondary report, not a verified final platform or edition list. What is known—and not known—about its release date and disc
The date information in the PlayStation Universe article is internally inconsistent: its body says Spring 2027, a later passage says April 8, 2026, and its game listing gives December 31, 2027. Those dates cannot all be correct, so none should be treated as a confirmed release date. The report also mentions a disc release but says players will need to download data to play. It does not establish final editions or regional availability.
