You can play several Filipino mythology and folklore games in English, but an English store page does not guarantee English subtitles—or captions for sound effects. Before buying or downloading, check the game’s language listing, release status, and accessibility options. For Filipino voice acting with English subtitles, released walking simulator Taguan is the clearest current match; text-first Until Then is a strong English-reading option, though it is a Manila-set coming-of-age story rather than a monster-hunting game. This guide shows how to verify subtitles, choose a game for your platform and access needs, and avoid mistaking a prototype or coming-soon listing for a released game.
What should I check before choosing a game?
Start with three questions: does the game actually offer English subtitles, is it available on your platform now, and does its accessibility information address your needs? Filipino folklore games range from finished PC releases to browser fiction, large downloads, VR projects still marked coming soon, and physical tabletop games. Their accessibility documentation is uneven, so checking the exact store listing matters more than relying on a general claim that a game is “in English.”
- Language: On Steam, distinguish Interface, Full Audio, and Subtitles. On itch.io, language may be shown only as a tag or described in the game page.
- Availability: Check whether the title is released, a playable prototype, a demo, or still coming soon. A demo is not the same as a full release.
- Access needs: Look for subtitles and captions, and separately check for text size, speaker labels, screen-reader support, remapping, color options, or flashing-light warnings. Those detailed options are rarely documented for this group of games.
- Platform and input: Confirm whether the game runs in a browser, needs a Windows or Mac download, supports a phone, or requires a VR headset and tracked controllers.
Most titles below have English-language store material, but that alone does not establish the language of every menu, spoken line, or subtitle track. On Steam, use the language columns as the primary check; on itch.io, read the page description and version notes before downloading.

On Steam, open the game’s store page and inspect its language table. The three columns answer different questions: Interface covers menus and HUD, Full Audio identifies spoken languages, and Subtitles identifies on-screen dialogue or transcription. English in the Interface column does not by itself mean the game has English subtitles.

What the language combinations mean
- English Interface + English Subtitles: menus and a subtitle track are listed in English. Spoken audio may still be in another language or absent.
- Filipino Full Audio + English Subtitles: the useful combination if you want Tagalog or Filipino voice acting with English text. Check the specific title’s table rather than assuming all Filipino games use this setup.
- English Interface only: English menus are listed, but the page does not confirm an English subtitle track. Do not treat an unchecked Subtitles box as confirmation.
For example, Steam lists Taguan with English interface and subtitles and Filipino full audio. Tindahan lists English interface and subtitles, along with Filipino interface, audio, and subtitles; its developer also explicitly says the game currently features Tagalog voice acting with English subtitles. By contrast, The Dreaded Hut lists English interface, but its Steam page does not check Subtitles or Full Audio. That is not proof that every line is inaccessible, but it is not a confirmed subtitle track.
How to check itch.io games
itch.io pages often use a language tag such as “Languages: English,” rather than Steam’s three-part table. Treat that as useful but less specific: it may not distinguish spoken audio from interface text or subtitles. For browser games, use the page’s Run game option if present; for downloadable builds, check the listed operating system and file size before downloading.
How do I turn subtitles and captions on?
First check the game’s own settings; a platform-level accessibility setting may not switch on a game’s dialogue subtitles. Menu names vary, but the common path is Settings > Audio or Accessibility > Subtitles, then enable subtitles and adjust size or text scale if those controls exist.
- Confirm the game’s language support. On Steam, verify English in the Subtitles column. In the Steam client, set the game language to English when the listing offers it.
- Open the main menu or pause menu. Find Settings, then Audio, Language, or Accessibility. The available labels differ by title.
- Enable subtitles. Look for a toggle labeled Subtitles or Dialogue Subtitles. Do not assume subtitles are on by default.
- Make the text easier to follow if controls exist. Increase Subtitle size, Text size, or Font scale. Turn on Speaker labels or Character names if available.
- Look for captions separately. Closed captions can add descriptions of important sounds, such as “[door creaks],” as well as dialogue. A dialogue subtitle track is not automatically a closed-caption track.
- Check the result in a scene with speech and sound cues. Confirm that text appears in the language you expect and that any sound descriptions you need are present.
On PC, Windows Magnifier, Color filters, and Narrator can support text-heavy interfaces when a game lacks its own screen reader or visual adjustments. These operating-system tools are workarounds, not a replacement for native game support, and Narrator may not interpret every game interface reliably.

Which Filipino mythology games have the clearest English options?
The strongest match depends on whether you want Filipino voice acting, readable English text, a particular creature, or a game that is actually released. The comparison below uses the platforms and language information listed in the game pages or other named sources; availability and store details can change.
| Game | English language evidence | Platform and status | Access and folklore fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taguan | English interface and subtitles; Filipino full audio | Steam; released 24 December 2025 | One-sitting, roughly hour-plus walking simulator. Includes a flashing-lights and jumpscare warning. |
| Tindahan | English interface and subtitles; Filipino interface, full audio, and subtitles. Developer says Tagalog voice acting has English subtitles. | Steam; listed as coming soon | First-person sari-sari-store horror; do not treat the coming-soon page as a buy-now release. |
| Until Then | English interface and subtitles; English full audio is not checked. Rappler describes the written dialogue as English and unvoiced. | Steam and PlayStation 5; released 25 June 2024; Steam demo available | Text-forward Manila narrative and coming-of-age magical realism, not a creature-combat mythology game. |
| Tales of the Aswang VR | English interface, full audio, and subtitles; Steam lists “Captions available.” | Steam VR; listed as coming soon | Folklore-focused VR adventure; requires a compatible PC VR setup and tracked controllers. |
| The Dreaded Hut | English interface listed; subtitle and full-audio support are not checked on Steam. | Steam; released 30 January 2026 | Folk horror with baybayin puzzles; do not assume it has a dedicated subtitle track. |
| Jeep Horror | itch.io language tag: English | itch.io browser version and Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android builds; in development, playable/demo | Aswang-in-disguise premise; keyboard, mouse, or touch input is listed. |
| Hablon Dawani | English synopsis; no language table published | itch.io; prototype download | Bicolano mythology and a 1.7 GB download; English synopsis is not confirmation of a complete English-language game. |
| Eye of the Moon | English interactive fiction | itch.io HTML5; playable in a browser | Text-first pre-colonial fantasy; its creator’s response to a dark-mode request was a willingness to try, not confirmation that dark mode shipped. |
| The Girl Who Sees | English RPG that teaches Tagalog words | itch.io; Windows and Mac downloads | Offers Battle Mode and trivia-based Discovery Mode; its story is set in 1945 Mindanao. |
| ENGKANTO | English-language Kickstarter campaign | Physical tabletop game; Kickstarter campaign funded | Pre-colonial Philippines fantasy; no video subtitles apply. |
Until Then is the most established option here for readers who prioritize English text and a Philippine setting. Steam showed 97% positive from 9,716 English user reviews in 2026 and 96% positive from 396 recent reviews in 2026; those are Valve Steam figures, not an accessibility rating. PCGamingWiki records that Filipino localization was added on 22 November 2024. For creature-focused folklore, look instead to the aswang-centered horror titles, Tales of the Aswang VR, or Bicolano prototype Hablon Dawani.
What do these games cost, and which are released?
Prices below are the figures reported by the named store or publication. Steam prices are in USD as shown on the English store; the available evidence does not establish a universal regional price. Prices and sale dates can change, so confirm the current listing before purchase. Price and status details checked Nov 2026.
| Title | Price or cost evidence | Release or access status |
|---|---|---|
| Taguan | $2.99 USD list price on Valve Steam; Murushii Studios/Steam estimates 1 hour or more of playtime. | Released; Steam page accessed 29 October 2026. |

| Eye of the Moon | Price not stated in the cited itch.io information. | Playable in browser; story last updated in 2022. |
| Tindahan and Tales of the Aswang VR | Price not stated on the cited Steam listings. | Both listed as coming soon; wishlist rather than assuming they can be purchased now. |
| ENGKANTO | Kickstarter campaign received AU$37,995 in pledges from 172 backers. | Funded physical-game campaign, not evidence of an Amazon retail listing. |
Steam popularity figures can help identify titles with an established review base, but they do not measure subtitle quality or disability access. Valve Steam reported 97% positive among 45 user reviews for Taguan and 94% positive among 18 reviews for The Dreaded Hut in 2026. Those small review totals are not a substitute for checking the language table or the game’s warnings.

How do I play the games on Steam, itch.io, console, or VR?
Choose the platform instructions that match the title. The most common avoidable problems are downloading the wrong build, overlooking a large prototype file, or assuming a coming-soon VR listing can be played immediately.
Steam on PC
- Create or sign in to a Steam account and open the exact game page.
- Before installing, check the Interface, Full Audio, and Subtitles columns. Check system requirements too; language support does not establish that a PC meets the game’s hardware needs.
- Install the released game or demo. On first launch, open its Settings or pause menu and look for the subtitle controls described above.
- For Taguan, read its content disclosure before purchase: it warns of disturbing imagery, fear-inducing large-scale objects, violence, blood and mild gore, jumpscares, flashing lights, self-harm themes, and references to political and social issues.
itch.io browser games and downloads
- Use Run game for an HTML5 version where offered; Eye of the Moon and Jeep Horror have browser-playable options.
- For a download, confirm the operating system and file size on the game page. Download and extract a zip before opening its application; do not try to run an archive as though it were the game itself.
- Hablon Dawani is a 1.7 GB prototype zip. Allow enough storage and time for the download and extraction, then launch the extracted game icon.
- The Girl Who Sees lists Windows and Mac archives of 439 MB and 386 MB respectively. Choose the build for your computer before downloading.
PlayStation 5
Until Then is confirmed for PS5 by Rappler (26 June 2024) and GameSpot (27 October 2026). Use the game’s own subtitle setting where available, and check the console’s Accessibility settings for system-level options; console options do not guarantee that a game offers a missing subtitle track.
VR
Tales of the Aswang VR is listed as VR Only and coming soon. Its Steam requirements call for SteamVR or Oculus PC, tracked controllers, 10 GB of storage, and at minimum an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060-class GPU. The Steam page lists captions and English interface, full audio, and subtitles, but the project’s climbing and puzzle play should not be assumed suitable for every motion, balance, vision, or photosensitivity need. Its page also notes over 90 minutes of developer commentary.
What accessibility features are documented, and what is missing?
Some useful features are explicitly listed, but detailed accessibility settings are rarely published for these indie games. A game with English dialogue subtitles may still lack closed captions, screen-reader support, adjustable text, or remappable controls.

- Captions flag: Steam marks captions available for Tales of the Aswang VR, which is also still coming soon.
- Text-first presentation: Until Then uses written, unvoiced dialogue, and Eye of the Moon is interactive fiction. Text-first play can be easier for some Deaf and hard-of-hearing players, but does not establish support for screen readers or visual access.
- Alternative play mode: The Girl Who Sees has Discovery Mode, described as trivia rather than its combat mode.
- Input choices: Jeep Horror lists keyboard, mouse, and touch, with HTML5 plus desktop and Android builds.
What is not established
For most titles in this set, public listings do not establish subtitle backgrounds, speaker identification, text-edge controls, screen-reader or menu narration support, complete button remapping, hold-versus-toggle options, colorblind palettes, or audio description. Do not infer those features from the presence of subtitles. The absence of a published feature list also does not prove that an option is absent in-game; it means you should not rely on it without confirming it in the game or with its developer.
Eye of the Moon illustrates why a request or promise should not be mistaken for a shipped feature. A visually impaired player asked its creator for dark mode because the color scheme caused headaches; the creator replied that they were happy to accommodate accessibility to the best of their coding abilities. The cited page does not confirm that dark mode was later added. Its story’s last chapter was released 10 April 2022, and progress was last noted 1 December 2022.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which folklore appears in these games?
These titles draw on different regional stories and should not be treated as interchangeable versions of one mythology. The following guide helps identify the creatures and cultural references named in the game descriptions.
- Aswang: a shapeshifting monster in the broad folklore framing used here. It is central to the disguised-passenger premise of Jeep Horror, to Aswang Hunter, and to the VR title Tales of the Aswang VR.
- Kapre: a cigar-smoking tree giant. In Tales of the Aswang VR, protagonist Juno must recover the Kapre’s eyes. The store page also names manananggal, Pugot Mamu, and duendes.
- Tikbalang: commonly described in these materials as half-man, half-horse. It appears in Casa Caballero playthroughs and in Rappler’s historical reference to the 2003 game Anito: Defend a Land Enraged.
- Bakunawa: a moon-eating serpent. It features in an English-language, beginner-friendly D&D 5e campaign called “The Untold Legend of Bakunawa,” set on the planet Tawalisi.
- Dawani, Gugurang, and Korokoy: figures in Hablon Dawani, an Ateneo de Naga University prototype drawing on Bicolano stories. The player is Dawani, weaver of Iraya, who later becomes a rainbow goddess; Korokoy is a cricket omen and Gugurang is also named.
- Babaylan: a shaman protagonist appears in the academic project Issa: Ang Babaylan, described in a 2026 ACM ICIIT abstract as a 3D third-person roguelike. A commercial public release was not confirmed.
- Baybayin: a script used for puzzles in The Dreaded Hut.
Tales of the Aswang VR credits Maximo Ramos’s Creatures of Philippine Lower Mythology and Luisa Igloria’s Cordillera Tales, as well as oral stories and accounts passed down over time. ENGKANTO takes a tabletop approach: its Kickstarter describes a pre-colonial Philippines fantasy with heroes and monsters of Filipino folklore, set around Samar and the lost city of Biringan.

How do I choose based on my needs?
Match the game to the constraint that matters most, rather than choosing by “Filipino mythology” alone. In this small scene, language support, release maturity, and input requirements differ sharply from title to title.
- For Tagalog voice acting and English subtitles: choose released Taguan if its warning about flashing lights and jumpscares is compatible with your needs; keep Tindahan on a wishlist until its release.
- For a story primarily readable in English: choose Until Then for its text-forward Manila narrative, while recognizing that its focus is culture and coming-of-age magical realism, not creature combat. Eye of the Moon is another browser-based, English text option, but its development is not recent.
- For folklore horror without a VR headset: consider Jeep Horror’s browser or desktop demo, or The Dreaded Hut. Verify subtitle expectations for the latter because Steam does not check its Subtitles box.
- For Bicolano mythology: try the Hablon Dawani prototype if a large download and prototype limitations are acceptable.
- For a lower-combat alternative: The Girl Who Sees includes Discovery Mode, but its story addresses the Japanese occupation and is set in 1945 Mindanao.
- For a physical game or group-led play: consider ENGKANTO or the Bakunawa-inspired 5e campaign. These have no video subtitle toggle; access depends on readable game materials and, for a tabletop role-playing session, the game master’s narration.
- For VR captions specifically: Tales of the Aswang VR is the title with Steam’s “Captions available” flag, but it is not listed as released.
Hardware can also shape the choice. The cited minimum requirements for Taguan are a GTX 1050 Ti-class GPU with 2 GB, while Until Then lists a GTX 750 Ti-class GPU with 3 GB. These are store-listed minimums, not performance guarantees. For Tindahan, the developer lists Windows 10, GTX 1060, 8 GB RAM, and 3 GB storage as requirements, despite the title’s coming-soon status.
How were these games selected?
This guide includes titles supported by the cited store pages, developer descriptions, or named reporting, and distinguishes released products from prototypes and unreleased projects. The selection criteria are practical: whether English text or subtitles are documented, what platform and input the title supports, which accessibility flags or warnings are published, whether price or playtime is stated, how directly the game draws on Filipino folklore, and whether a player can access it now.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Until Then have Filipino language support?
PCGamingWiki records that a Filipino localization was added on 22 November 2024. Steam lists seven languages for the game, but the exact components supported by each language should be checked on the current store page.
Is Sinag Fighting Game available on Android?
Sinag Fighting Game was reported as a Google Play pre-registration in 2023, associated with Ranida Games and a CCP game-development grant. Its 2026 Google Play status is not confirmed by the available listing information, so check the current store before counting on a download.
Are there Filipino mythology games for a tabletop group?
Yes. The English-language campaign for ENGKANTO describes a physical fantasy game based on Filipino folklore, while “The Untold Legend of Bakunawa” is an English D&D 5e campaign listed as beginner-friendly. For either format, ask the game seller or game master about readable materials and any accommodations the group needs.
