For a Stratocaster, choose Player for a contemporary feel, Vintera for era-specific vintage details, and American Professional for its higher-end appointments—but compare the exact model and generation before deciding. Fender’s series cover multiple instruments and their specifications vary. The examples here are Stratocasters: Player II, Vintera II ’70s, and American Professional II. They illustrate the differences, not specifications guaranteed across every instrument in each series.

How the three Fender series differ

The series names are a starting point, not a complete specification. Neck shape, fretboard radius, fret type, pickups and bridge can change by instrument, generation and model. Fender’s Stratocaster buying guide also notes that player preferences differ; there is no single Stratocaster that suits everyone.

Series example General direction Specific Stratocaster example Price observation
Player II Contemporary features and feel Modern C neck, 9.5-inch radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, Alnico 5 single-coils and two-point tremolo $849.99 on Fender’s accessed US product page in 2026; a page observation, not a lasting price
Vintera II ’70s Vintage-inspired details tied to a particular era ’70s U neck, 7.25-inch radius, 21 vintage-tall frets, vintage-style ’70s pickups and six-screw tremolo €1,199 including VAT on Fender Europe’s accessed page in 2026; a regional page observation
American Professional II Professional-series appointments Deep C neck, rolled fingerboard edges, V-Mod II pickups and upgraded two-point tremolo $1,699.99 USD in Fender’s anniversary announcement; verify current price and availability

These figures come from different regions and publication contexts, so they are not a like-for-like price comparison. Check the current listing in your region for the exact configuration you want.

Choose Player II for a contemporary-feeling Stratocaster

On the Player II Stratocaster, Fender specifies a Modern C neck with a satin-finished back, a 9.5-inch-radius maple or rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges, and 22 medium jumbo frets. The listed pickups are Player Series Alnico 5 single-coils, and the bridge is a two-point synchronized tremolo with bent-steel saddles. Fender also lists ClassicGear tuners and alder, chambered ash or chambered mahogany body options.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

This is the clearest fit of the three examples if you want those particular modern-oriented features. Do not assume every Player instrument or earlier Player generation has the same specification; check its individual product listing.

Choose Vintera for a specific vintage-era recipe

Vintera models are vintage-inspired, but the era and generation matter. Fender’s older Vintera overview describes period-oriented neck shapes, decade-specific pickups and vintage colors, as well as modified models that combine vintage inspiration with contemporary features. That overview predates Vintera III.

For a concrete earlier-generation example, Fender Europe’s Vintera II ’70s Stratocaster has a ’70s U neck, a 7.25-inch-radius fingerboard, 21 vintage-tall frets, vintage-style ’70s pickups and a six-screw vintage-style synchronized tremolo. Those details describe that model, not every Vintera Stratocaster.

Fender announced Vintera III on April 14, 2026, describing a range built around distinct historical designs. The announcement lists Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jazzmaster, Jaguar, Mustang and bass models, with period-oriented profiles, headstocks, decals, inlays and finishes. The range’s arrival means Vintera II should not be treated as the latest Vintera generation. See Fender’s Vintera III announcement for the company’s generation and range details.

Consider American Professional only by its generation and model

“American Professional” needs a generation label to make a useful comparison. Fender’s Stratocaster anniversary announcement describes the American Professional II Stratocaster with a Deep C neck, rolled fingerboard edges, a “Super-Natural” satin finish, sculpted neck heel, V-Mod II pickups and a two-point tremolo with a cold-rolled steel block. These are the announced features of that example; they should not be generalized to every American Professional instrument or generation.

Fender listed $1,699.99 USD for that model in the anniversary announcement. That announcement price does not establish current catalog status, stock or pricing in every region. Confirm those details with Fender’s current local listing.

Compare the details that affect your choice

Neck shape and playing feel

The examples use three different profiles: Player II’s Modern C, Vintera II ’70s’ U and American Professional II’s Deep C. Shape names alone do not tell you which will feel best in your hand. If possible, try the precise model, or at least compare its neck profile and finish with an instrument you already know.

Fingerboard radius and frets

The Player II example has a 9.5-inch radius and 22 medium jumbo frets; the Vintera II ’70s has a 7.25-inch radius and 21 vintage-tall frets. The American Professional II announcement cited here specifies rolled edges but does not state its radius or fret count. These differences are model-specific, so consult the exact listing rather than filling gaps from the series name.

Pickups and electronics

The named pickup sets differ: Player Series Alnico 5 single-coils on Player II, vintage-style ’70s pickups on the cited Vintera II, and V-Mod II pickups on American Professional II. Compare the exact pickup and switching specifications for the sound and controls you want; a series label alone cannot establish that one model will sound better for your music.

Bridge and tremolo

The Player II and American Professional II examples use two-point tremolo systems, while the Vintera II ’70s uses a six-screw vintage-style synchronized tremolo. If bridge design matters to you, check the specific model’s hardware and whether it matches your preferred setup.

A practical way to make the decision

  1. Start with the instrument and generation. Confirm that you are comparing the same type of guitar and identify the full model name, such as Player II Stratocaster or Vintera II ’70s Stratocaster.
  2. Shortlist by feel and hardware. Compare neck profile, fingerboard radius, fret style, pickups and bridge on the individual product pages.
  3. Try the exact model if you can. Neck preference is personal; Fender’s buying guide likewise emphasizes that players do not all want the same Stratocaster.
  4. Check local price and stock. Prices can differ by region and date. Verify the current listing and configuration with Fender or a local retailer before buying.
  5. Confirm included accessories and fit. Fender’s Player II page lists recommended case and gig bag references as not included. Check that any case or bag fits the exact body and model.
