It stores feed lists in CSV files and documents features including category browsing, OPML import and export, keyboard navigation, clipboard actions, and opening links or media in external programs. This guide covers the project’s documented setup and capabilities; they have not been independently tested.
What is Feedln?
Feedln is the Python project at github.com/xqtr/feedln. Its README describes it as “a command-line RSS feed reader that allows users to manage and read their favorite feeds.” It provides a terminal interface for viewing and updating feeds, organizing them, and marking entries read or unread.
Feedln is distinct from Feedr, a separately named Rust RSS/Atom reader. The similar names do not indicate that the projects are related.
What can you do with Feedln?
Organize feeds and entries
- Keep feed lists in CSV files; the program loads feeds from those files and can clean up orphan entries.
- Browse feeds by category, sort feeds by name or title and by date, and search text within categories.
- Use multiple feed files, edit a feeds file in an external editor, and import or export OPML.
- Mark items as read or unread.
Read, copy, and open content
- View entries and select, copy, or open links from a separate screen.
- Copy links, entry content, or titles to the clipboard.
- Extract an entry’s text to a file.
- Open links, video, and images with external programs.
- Navigate menus using the left and right cursor keys.
These are capabilities listed in the project README, not results of an independent test. External application support depends on the relevant programs being available and configured on your system.

Install and launch Feedln
The README lists Python 3.x and the Python libraries feedparser, BeautifulSoup (installed as beautifulsoup4), pyperclip, requests, and lxml. From a terminal, install the listed dependencies with:
pip install beautifulsoup4 feedparser pyperclip lxml requests
Then, from the directory containing the project’s feedln.py file, run the documented launch command:

python feedln.py
The README does not specify a particular Python 3 minor version or provide a platform-by-platform installation procedure. If your system uses a version-specific Python or pip command, use the one that installs packages for the same Python interpreter you intend to use to run Feedln.
Feed files, categories, and OPML
Feedln’s documented storage approach is CSV feed files. It can use multiple feed files, browse feeds by category, and edit a feed file in an external editor. It also lists OPML import and export, which provides a way to move feed lists into or out of the application. The README feature list does not specify CSV column names or a detailed import/export workflow, so consult the current project documentation for those particulars.

External programs and configuration
An optional configuration file named Feedln.cfg can specify external tools. The README documents these keys and defaults or examples:
