When does Evercold come out, and what platforms are announced?
Square Enix currently lists a January 2027 release window. The official platform list includes PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Windows, Mac, and Steam. The announcement does not give an exact launch day or a full regional storefront schedule, so availability may vary by platform and region.
It also does not confirm a price, preorder window, or physical retail edition. Those details should not be treated as settled until Square Enix publishes them.

Which jobs and level-cap changes are announced?
Bastion
Bastion is a new main tank job that uses the weapon Skyltborg. The announced job is playable in Evolved Mode only.
Physical ranged DPS
Square Enix has announced a second job in the physical ranged DPS role, but its name is not stated in the reviewed official page text. No weapon or further job details are specified there.
Level cap
The level cap is set to rise from 100 to 110. This is an announced expansion feature, not a claim about the current live-game cap before Evercold launches.

The story’s main new locations include two massive realmships in the Fourth:
- Naglfar, Realmship of Water
- Hringhorni, Realmship of Fire
The new city announced so far is Fargarth. Square Enix also lists new areas, dungeons, trials, FATEs, hunts, treasure hunts, gear, crafting recipes, allies, and threats, without providing a complete catalog in the announcement.
What combat, progression, and character systems will change?
Reborn Mode and Evolved Mode
Evercold introduces a new battle system with two modes: Reborn Mode and Evolved Mode. Square Enix says the modes do not apply to limited jobs, and jobs introduced in Evercold can only be played in Evolved Mode. The announcement also says some overarching game-design changes and the new battle system will be available without purchasing the expansion.

Seasons and item rewards
A redesigned reward and item-level framework called Seasons is planned. The announcement names the framework but does not yet provide enough detail to explain its full rules or how it will affect individual rewards.

Planned updates include an Armoury update, expanded character customization, and customizable action animations. Square Enix has not specified the complete set of changes in the announcement.

Main-scenario progression will change. The official feature list also describes auto content balancing in specific areas: party matching across different level ranges, adjusted duty balance, level-balanced field enemies, and adjusted drop rates and item levels for certain rewards. These are announced functions; the page does not spell out every affected duty or reward.

Which raids and crossover content are announced?
EVANGELION – Ghosts of Desire
EVANGELION – Ghosts of Desire is the announced alliance raid series for Evercold. Square Enix’s separate crossover announcement confirms its role as the expansion’s alliance raid, while noting that further details would come later.
Beyond the Lifestream and Ultimate
The announcement also lists a raid series called Beyond the Lifestream and a new Ultimate raid. Eight-player raids are set to gain an additional difficulty between Normal and Savage. No raid release schedule or further encounter details are given in the reviewed announcements.

Square Enix lists updates to PvP and Duty Support. It also plans to overhaul chocobo raising and let players call chocobos to help in dungeons. These appear alongside the expansion’s broader feature list; the announcement does not give a full breakdown of the changes.

Will any Evercold changes be available without buying the expansion?
Yes. Square Enix says some updates will be available without purchasing Evercold, including overarching game-design changes, the new battle system, PvP updates, and Duty Support updates. The announcement does not identify every eligible feature or provide a complete access-by-patch breakdown.
Some listed content may arrive through patches and may not be playable immediately after purchase. The official Evercold page cautions that all announced content remains in development and may change before release.
What official trailers and artwork are available?
A Lodestone update about Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin says Square Enix showed a second trailer, a first look at Bastion, landscapes from the Fourth, and a new Yoshitaka Amano illustration. The official Evercold media page lists an extended teaser trailer and short features for Bastion, Naglfar, Hringhorni, and Fargarth. The current official announcements establish the reveal and the listed media, rather than a full launch showcase of every feature.
What is still unknown about Evercold?
As of Square Enix’s official English-language North American announcements reviewed on October 7, 2026, the confirmed release information is a January 2027 window, not a specific date.
