Etched is reportedly reviewing investor bids that would value the AI-inference startup at $40 billion to $50 billion, but no new funding round has been confirmed. TechCrunch reported the preliminary offers on October 5, 2026, citing people familiar with the company; Etched declined to comment, and the terms could change. The range is not a completed financing or a confirmed company valuation.
What is known about the reported offers?
TechCrunch’s October 5 report describes incoming bids under review, not a signed deal. The report does not establish that Etched has accepted an offer, closed a financing, or adopted a new valuation. The $40 billion–$50 billion range should therefore be treated as reported potential terms, attributed to TechCrunch and its unnamed sources—not as Etched’s current confirmed valuation. TechCrunch
Etched declined to comment to TechCrunch. Because the discussions are preliminary and terms may change, the range could shift or lead to no transaction.

How does that compare with Etched’s announced funding?
Etched’s latest publicly announced financing in the cited company materials was an August 18, 2026 round of $700 million at a $21 billion valuation, led by Jane Street. The company also named Jane Street as its first customer and said it had shipped its first rack to the firm. Before that, Etched announced a $300 million Series C at a $10.3 billion valuation on July 23, 2026. These are company-announced financings; the later reported bid range is not a comparable completed round.

What does Etched build?
Etched develops integrated, rack-scale systems for AI inference: running trained models to generate outputs, rather than training them. Its systems combine custom chips, memory, interconnects, cooling, software, and manufacturing. They are aimed at data-center workloads, not consumer PC components.
Low Voltage Inference and Cluster Scale Memory
Etched describes Low Voltage Inference (LVI) as an approach intended to target power and compute density. Its Cluster Scale Memory (CSM) is a shared hybrid SRAM/HBM memory subsystem that the company says is designed to reduce memory latency across a cluster. Those performance and design-benefit descriptions are Etched’s claims; the cited material does not provide independent benchmark results establishing them. Etched

Customer deployment
In its August 18 announcement, Etched said Jane Street had tested its chip, had its own rack running in a data center, and was deploying the system into workloads. Jane Street’s statement, reproduced in that company release, said it was pleased with early results and excited to have a rack running. This is a customer statement published by Etched, not an independent performance benchmark. Etched announcement

What the reported range does—and does not—mean
- It does mean: TechCrunch reported that Etched was reviewing incoming bids with valuations in the $40 billion–$50 billion range.
- It does not mean: Etched has confirmed a new round, accepted a bid, or completed a financing at that valuation.
- For comparisons: distinguish closed financings from preliminary offers, and compare round date, amount, valuation, stage, customer deployments, and independently benchmarked performance separately.
The key distinction is status: Etched’s $21 billion August valuation accompanied an announced financing, while the $40 billion–$50 billion figure remains a reported range of offers under review.
