Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is available as a preinstalled Server image for the ESWIN EBC7700 single-board computer, part of ESWIN’s EBC77 Series. Canonical and ESWIN announced the partnership on July 16, 2025. Important: Ubuntu classifies the partner-built image as a developer preview—it is not production-ready and does not include Canonical security updates or support.

What the Ubuntu announcement means

Canonical’s announcement describes Ubuntu as the primary Linux distribution for the EBC77 Series and positions the board for education, embedded and edge systems, and general-purpose applications. Those are the companies’ intended use cases, not independent findings about performance or readiness.

Ubuntu’s partner-built RISC-V page identifies a specific board, the ESWIN EBC7700 SBC, and lists an Ubuntu 24.04 Server preinstalled image. That listing is the practical availability detail; it should not be read as proof that every EBC77 model has the same image.

The image is a developer preview built and hosted by a Canonical partner using Canonical tools and standard build processes. Ubuntu says it is not production-ready and does not include Canonical security updates or support. Organizations that require commercial support should contact Canonical before relying on it in a product or deployed system. Ubuntu’s partner-built RISC-V download page

How to install Ubuntu on the ESWIN EBC7700 SBC

  1. Open Ubuntu’s partner-built RISC-V page and locate “ESWIN EBC7700 SBC” and “Ubuntu 24.04 Server preinstalled image.”
  2. Follow the ESWIN installation instructions linked from the Ubuntu listing. ESWIN’s EBC7700 Ubuntu repository points to the EBC77 Series Single Board Computer User Guide, Chapter 6, for bootloader programming and Ubuntu system-image programming and updates.
  3. Use the current ESWIN guide for the exact procedure and prerequisites. The available listing and repository guidance do not establish a complete, verified sequence of commands or hardware requirements, so do not substitute generic flashing steps.

Canonical lists a microSD slot, but the cited installation information does not establish whether the Ubuntu image is installed to a microSD card, what card capacity or compatibility is required, or whether a card is included. Check the current ESWIN guide before buying setup media.

EBC77 specifications reported by Canonical

The following are specifications in Canonical’s July 16, 2025 announcement, not independently measured results. In particular, the NPU figure is a stated capability, not a benchmark.

What to verify before buying or deploying one

  • Image and support: Confirm the exact model and image on Ubuntu’s partner page, and account for its developer-preview status and lack of Canonical security updates and support.
  • Installation details: Check the current ESWIN user guide for bootloader and image-programming instructions, plus any storage or peripheral requirements.
  • Live product availability: Canonical’s 2025 announcement referred readers to ESWIN’s Amazon or Taobao store for updates when preorders were forthcoming. That historical reference does not confirm a current listing, seller, price, inventory, or what a package contains.
  • Fit for a project: Match the documented interfaces, processor and memory configuration, software image, and support arrangements to the intended workload. The announcement does not provide a head-to-head comparison with other EBC77 models or competing boards.
