The specific EFPO advisory and the organization behind the acronym could not be verified from authoritative sources. The steps below are general online-account safety guidance from Singapore government agencies—not confirmed EFPO instructions. Before following any notice, verify who issued it and which service or account it covers.

First, verify the advisory and the account it concerns

Do not assume that an alert mentioning “EFPO” comes from a particular agency or account service. The available sources do not establish what EFPO stands for or confirm that it issued the advisory in this headline. A separate Philippine Bureau of Internal Revenue notice concerns the eFPS tax-filing service; it does not identify EFPO, so its instructions should not be attributed to EFPO. BIR: Secure your eFPS Account

  • Check the notice on the organization’s official website or verified communication channel.
  • Confirm the exact service and account affected before using a link or contact detail in an unexpected message.
  • If you cannot verify the sender, go to the service’s official site independently or contact its support team through a known channel.

Simple steps to protect an online account

The Singapore Police Force and Singapore’s ScamShield service publish the recommendations below. They are useful general practices, but they are not verified steps from EFPO.

Use a distinct, strong password for each account

A password reused across services can put other accounts at risk if one service is compromised. Use a different, hard-to-guess password for each account; a reputable password manager can help create and manage them. ScamShield recommends strong passphrases and gives a specific example: at least 12 characters, with five distinct words connected to a unique memory. That is ScamShield’s recommendation, not a universal password rule. ScamShield: Secure your accounts

Turn on two-factor or multifactor authentication

Enable 2FA or MFA wherever the service offers it. This adds a verification step beyond the password. Use the security settings provided by the service and keep recovery details current.

Be cautious with unexpected messages and links

Phishing messages can lead to fake sign-in pages that imitate legitimate services. Avoid entering credentials after following an unsolicited link. Instead, open the service through its official app or by typing its known web address yourself. Do not open unexpected attachments unless you have verified the sender and were expecting the file.

What to do if you suspect an account was compromised

If you can still access the account, secure it promptly. If access is lost or you see unauthorized activity, contact the provider through an official channel.

  1. Change the affected account’s password. Use a new password that you do not use elsewhere.
  2. Change reused passwords on other accounts. Prioritize accounts that share the compromised password, especially email accounts that can be used to reset other passwords.
  3. Enable 2FA or MFA if available, and check that recovery details are still yours.
  4. Review and remove unfamiliar sessions or devices where the service provides that option. Check recent activity and account settings for changes you did not make.
  5. Contact the provider if you cannot regain access or find unauthorized transactions, and ask what steps are available to secure the account.
  6. Scan the device if a suspicious link or attachment may have exposed it to malware. Use updated antivirus software.
  7. Report the incident to the appropriate authority or reporting channel for your location and the affected service.

These recovery actions are drawn from Singapore Police Force guidance and should not be mistaken for confirmed EFPO procedures. Singapore Police Force: safeguarding online accounts

If the account involves cryptocurrency, secure the email account too

A Singapore Police Force advisory dated 12 September 2026 addresses unauthorized access to cryptocurrency accounts through compromised email accounts. In that context, the police advise reviewing email forwarding rules, login activity, recovery details, sessions, and devices; contacting providers to secure or freeze accounts; changing affected and reused passwords; enabling 2FA or MFA; and reporting suspected compromise. This advice is specifically about cryptocurrency accounts affected through email compromise, not a general EFPO notice. Singapore Police Force cryptocurrency-account advisory, 12 September 2026
