EE Times’ 2024 Silicon 100 is a historical editorial selection of 100 electronics and semiconductor startups—not a current ranking, a market census, or a prediction of which companies will succeed. EE Times identifies it as the 24th edition of the annual list. Its overview highlights AI, chiplets, and quantum technologies and groups companies into 24 technology areas.

What the 2024 Silicon 100 is

EE Times describes the Silicon 100 as an annual list of electronics and semiconductor startups to watch. The publisher’s August 16, 2024 announcement calls the 2024 edition the series’ 24th edition; its report overview, published July 8, 2024, describes a selection of 100 startups. These are distinct pages and dates, not a single publication date. Read the August announcement or see the July report overview.

It is best understood as an editorial guide to emerging companies and technology areas. The public overview does not establish a complete selection methodology, provide comparative performance measures, or show that inclusion predicts commercial success.

What technologies and categories it covers

EE Times presents AI capabilities, chiplets, and quantum technologies as themes of the 2024 report. It says the startups are classified across 24 technology areas, spanning foundational subjects such as materials and packaging through edge AI and security. That breadth makes the list a cross-section of the electronics and semiconductor startup landscape, rather than a ranking of companies competing in one market.

What readers can—and cannot—learn from the public pages

The accessible EE Times overview and announcement do not provide a full readable roster or every company profile. They therefore support the edition’s size, scope, and broad themes, but not a complete account of which companies were selected or how they compare. A few examples mentioned elsewhere should not be mistaken for the full 100.

Literal Labs, in a company-authored page dated August 9, 2024, says it appeared in the 2024 selection and names Analog Inference, Axelera AI, and Hailo Technologies as other examples. This corroborates that those companies were associated with the list; it does not establish the complete roster. See Literal Labs’ account. Claims on that company page, including an efficiency figure attributed there to EE Times, should not be treated as independently verified performance results on the basis of the reviewed publisher pages.

How to use the list responsibly

  • Use it as a discovery guide. The list can point readers toward startups and technology areas worth investigating, but inclusion alone is not a product endorsement or investment recommendation.
  • Check current status separately. A 2024 selection does not establish whether a company, product, or technology remains active or commercially available now.
  • Verify claims at the company level. For a meaningful comparison, look for each company’s technology area, intended application, geography, maturity, and evidence of commercialization. Distinguish company-reported claims from independent verification, and do not compare performance figures without their measurement methods and sources.
