Where EdgeMicro planned its first deployments
Data Center Knowledge reported on October 30, 2019, that Denver-based EdgeMicro was preparing wireless-tower-site deployments in Austin, Tampa, and Raleigh after two years of preparation. EdgeMicro expected its Austin and Tampa sites to come online by the end of October 2019, with Raleigh close behind. Those dates were forecasts reported at the time, not independently confirmed launch dates.
The company also said it was selecting and permitting sites in 20 additional cities, with launches expected in 2020. That was a 2019 expansion target; the report does not confirm that those locations opened. Data Center Knowledge’s October 30, 2019 report is the source for these plans.
Who were EdgeMicro’s first customers?
The report said EdgeMicro had tenants lined up for its initial colocation deployments, primarily hyperscalers and content providers. It did not name those tenants or disclose contracts, capacity commitments, or financial terms. The article referred to streaming companies as examples of the kinds of providers EdgeMicro had previously sought; it did not identify Netflix, Amazon Prime, or any other company as a signed customer.

What the planned modular data centers looked like
EdgeMicro’s planned facilities were 20-foot modular data center containers for installation at wireless tower sites. According to the 2019 report, each container was designed to hold up to six racks, with up to 8 kW of power available per rack.

Why EdgeMicro said it was building near wireless towers
EdgeMicro presented its approach as a way to place colocation closer to users while avoiding some of the difficulty of acquiring sites. Jason Bourg, the company’s vice president of sales, said: “This is about much more than three sites going live.”
Eric Bozich, identified in the report as EdgeMicro’s VM and general manager, said the company’s edge services would let customers “get closer to the eyeballs” through a colocation model that reduced site-acquisition friction. These were company statements about the intended value proposition; the report did not provide measured latency results or independent evidence of reduced acquisition risk.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The 2019 story documents EdgeMicro’s announced plans, reported design specifications, and statement that it had tenants. It does not establish that the three initial facilities launched on schedule, that the 20 additional cities received sites, or that EdgeMicro is operating those locations today. Nor does it provide enough information to compare EdgeMicro’s current service with other edge colocation providers.
