The Week’s easy Sudoku feature is a daily-updating 9×9 puzzle page for the week of 12–18 October 2026. The grids are date-specific and may change each day, so open The Week’s Easy Sudoku page to see the live puzzle. To solve it, place digits 1–9 so each row, column and 3×3 box contains every digit exactly once.
How to solve an easy Sudoku
Sudoku is a deduction puzzle, not an arithmetic problem. The digits printed in the grid are clues; the task is to fill the empty cells without repeating a digit in any row, column or 3×3 box.
The Week’s Easy Sudoku page puts the rule this way: “Fill the grid with numbers one to nine so that each row, column and square contains every digit exactly once.”
- Scan for missing digits. Check each row, column and 3×3 box to see which numbers from 1 to 9 are absent.
- Rule out conflicts. For an empty cell, eliminate every digit already present in its row, column or box.
- Fill a forced cell. If only one candidate remains, enter it, then scan again; each confirmed digit can narrow down other cells.
- Track unresolved cells. If multiple candidates remain, note them lightly on paper or use pencilmarks if the puzzle interface offers them. Revisit those cells as the grid changes.
- Use interface aids when available. A hint or conflict indicator can help you check your progress, but neither is part of Sudoku’s rules.
What makes a Sudoku puzzle “easy”?
Easy puzzles generally start with more given numbers, leaving fewer empty cells to solve. Apple Support describes easy puzzles as having more givens, while challenging puzzles use more complex strategies. There is no universal clue-count threshold that makes a puzzle easy: difficulty labels are set by individual publishers.
