The figures come from pre-release Air units, however, so they are an early indication—not a controlled comparison or a guarantee of retail performance.
What scores were reported for the M4 iPad Air?
In a March 6, 2026 report, Yahoo Tech’s Devesh Beri gives preliminary Geekbench 6 averages of 3,576 single-core points and 12,591 multi-core points for the 13-inch M4 iPad Air. These are figures reported by Yahoo Tech, not results independently measured here. Read the Yahoo Tech report.
Single-core and multi-core scores describe different benchmark workloads, so they are best compared separately rather than combined into one measure of speed.
How do the reported scores compare with M3 Air and M4 Pro?
Yahoo Tech also gives approximate averages for the M3 iPad Air and 13-inch M4 iPad Pro. The comparisons below reproduce the report’s figures; they are not results from a controlled, side-by-side test.

| Device | Geekbench 6 single-core | Geekbench 6 multi-core |
|---|---|---|
| 13-inch M4 iPad Air (pre-release results) | 3,576 | 12,591 |
| M3 iPad Air (approximate average stated by Yahoo Tech) | Approximately 3,048 | Approximately 11,667 |
| 13-inch M4 iPad Pro (approximate results stated by Yahoo Tech) | Approximately 3,704 | Approximately 13,805 |
In these reported averages, the M4 Air scores higher than the M3 Air and remains below the M4 Pro in both tests. That points to a narrower performance gap between the Air and Pro in Geekbench 6 than the product names alone might suggest. It does not establish how much faster either device will feel in a particular app.
Are the M4 Air and iPad Pro equally fast in real use?
The benchmark report does not show that the two tablets perform identically across apps or workloads. It characterizes the Pro as better suited to heavier video-editing and 3D work, while suggesting the Air should be sufficient for productivity essentials. Treat that as the report’s interpretation, not as a conclusion demonstrated by comparative workload testing.

For a buyer, the practical question is whether the specific apps and tasks matter more than a benchmark score. The reported results alone cannot establish performance in a particular editing project, 3D workflow, or everyday app.
How much faster is the M4 Air than the M3 Air?
The Yahoo Tech figures place the reported M4 Air averages above the approximate M3 Air averages in both Geekbench 6 tests. Because the report does not establish a controlled head-to-head test, those numbers should not be treated as a precise measure of the speed increase buyers will see on their own devices.

Why these early scores need caution
Yahoo Tech says the M4 Air results came from pre-release units and expects use of consumer devices to provide more information. Pre-release benchmark results may not represent the performance of finished retail devices, and the report’s averages do not by themselves reveal the range of results behind them. The cited article also does not provide independently verified workload comparisons.
A Geekbench result is one comparison point, not a complete buying guide. A decision between Air and Pro also depends on verified current prices, display and other specifications, accessory compatibility, and performance on retail devices. The cited report does not establish those details.
